Eating Out: Grassfed Plant Based Burgers and Ice Cream

Brisbane went wild when it was announced that Grassfed, a new vegan burger and ice cream restaurant, was opening. Combining favourite ice cream market stall, I Should Coco, with burgers and fries does sound like a match made in heaven.

The first time I went there with some friends was a Saturday afternoon, about 4.30pm, for a very early dinner. This was when I discovered that the actual venue is TINY, with hardly any seating. So unless you want take away or eat outside on the street, I feel an off-peak time is the best time to visit.

I was most excited about their milkshakes, using I Should Coco soft serve. Of course, I went for a Strawberry flavour, and it was so good! My friends tried the other flavours - chocolate and caramel.

I ordered the BFC burger (vEEF patty, double cheese, vBacon, fries, shimeshi mushroom, tomato, lettuce, caramelised onion, pickle and Grassfed Special Sauce) with added pineapple. I was a bit confused when it came, because I wasn't sure where the bacon or mushrooms were. I realised afterwards, when I saw photos of other BFC burgers, that they messed up my order and I had no bacon or mushrooms. I think I ended up with a Classic with fries and pineapple in it. It was still good, though I need to go and try the BFC in its proper form.

One of my friends did have The Classic (vEEF patty, tomato, lettuce, caramelised onions, cheese, pickle, aioli and mustard), which was enjoyed.

And my other friend got the Junior Burger (vEEF patty, cheese and Grassfed Special Sauce).

We also shared some fries. Curly Fries!

One of my friends also ordered a sundae. They don't have as many options for sundae's on the menu compared to the I Should Coco stalls at the markets, only three options (or plain). They got the Cookie Wookie (warm chocolate chip cookie dough and caramel sauce). Both times I have been, I've found the strawberry milkshake enough of a sweet treat for me, so haven't had any ice cream... yet.

The second time I went was 12pm on a Friday to meet a friend who was visiting from interstate. At this time, I squeezed into the last available table and then it got progressively more packed. This time I tried the Aussie Burger (vEEF patty, red onions, beetroot salad, pineapple, vEgg), but without the red onions. This was really good. Their vEgg was tofu based, and not too eggy, but just a nice enough faux egg taste and texture for me. For some reason, my photo of this turned out really bad, I think due to the limits of the lighting and also my vEgg kept just sliding to one side.

Here is a better photo from their Instagram.

I am definitely keen to go back again and try more of their menu, plus get an actual BFC, though I will be sticking to off peak times for sure as I need to be able to sit down.

  2. Awww hooray for Juniper Jellybean and her forever family!! That is always so wonderful to hear <3

This places looks INCREDIBLE. i don't normally have a ton of interest in "meaty" type burgers but those all look so good and I bet the caramelized onion topping makes it next level. The milkshakes look incredible, I'd never be able to choose!

    1. I really like the vEEF burgers. They hit that perfect point of meaty-ish but not too meaty!

    1. The milkshake excites me more than the burgers, but then I love a strawberry milkshake very much.
