Today I am writing with sadness. We got the news that Our Flag Means Death will not be being picked up for a third season by another network. They have already started auctioning off things from the set. The streaming industry right now is in freefall, and getting the show picked up straight away didn't work out. The OFMD community is very, very, very sad. Just clinging to hope that I will get to see my blorbos again one day, maybe in a few years when the industry has hopefully improved. In the meantime, I will just be very sad about it forever.<br /><br>
Let's look at some munchies. Chips and jams and a few other things. <br /><br>
Ninja vegan chips, these Sausage Sizzle chips were a bit underwhelming at first. I always want more flavour. But, if you stick a bunch in your mouth at once, then you get great flavour. I really liked them. Of course, they were limited edition, so I can't get anymore... Just like OFMD.ðŸ˜<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53585060490/in/dateposted-public/" title="Sausage Sizzle Chips"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53585060490_7f9c18083c_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Sausage Sizzle Chips"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
This St Dalfour's French Grape jam was a bit strange. Much sweeter than other jams, and with big grapes in it, which made it a bit big for spreading on things. Did you know there is a character in OFMD called Frenchie? He's not French. I miss him already. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53583748717/in/dateposted-public/" title="St Dalfours Jam"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53583748717_ddd5ab15a3_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="St Dalfours Jam"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Vitasoy's soy yoghurts are so good, so I tried these oat ones then they came out. Unfortunately they have pea protein in them, and leave a bad aftertaste in my mouth. Kind of like the bad taste about the way WBD/Max threw OFMD under the bus. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53585060485/in/dateposted-public/" title="Vitasoy Oat Yoghurt"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53585060485_c0c20ecb05_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Vitasoy Oat Yoghurt"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
These Thins Outback BBQ chips were really good, they had a great strong flavour! Once again, limited edition, because why keep something great around when you can just kill it instead? <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53584835868/in/dateposted-public/" title="Outback BBQ chips"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53584835868_064e73705b_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Outback BBQ chips"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Some Loving Earth chocolates. The Dirty Rose was nice, but no surprises the Berry Wild was not to my tastes. Give me cocoa poweder in my chocolate or give me (our flag means) death. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53584936269/in/dateposted-public/" title="Loving Earth"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53584936269_b6f347bbba_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Loving Earth"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Another St Dalfours jam, this time kumquat. It really enjoyed this in overnight oats and also with peanut butter. It was like a fancy marmalade. Damn good marmalade, one might say, and then cry about Ed and Stede eating marmalade. Marmalade has a special place in the hearts of OFMD fans. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53585060390/in/dateposted-public/" title="St Dalfours Jam"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53585060390_3db3226d7f_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="St Dalfours Jam"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
This St Dalfours Heritage Peach jam was quite lovely and sweet. I used it mostly in overnight oats. Edward Teach, arse like a peach, you would have loved this. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53584613681/in/dateposted-public/" title="St Dalfours Jam"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53584613681_3c6cb2b962_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="St Dalfours Jam"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Finally, this Veef Pulled Beef. Which I guess was OK? I don't have much of a memory about what it was or what I did with it. I think I put it into some pasta sauce, possibly. As you can see I got it on sale, and it was deep in my freezer for a long time. Sort of a shredded meaty/mushroom texture. Shredded like the hearts, hopes, and dreams of the OFMD community. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53584613696/in/dateposted-public/" title="Veef Pulled Beef"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53584613696_1d6ab21d94_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Veef Pulled Beef"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Friends, I am really really sad. You might scoff at being so cut up about a TV show, but the way I have found a new community through this show, they representation this show has that is just so unique and diverse, the fact that it is a love story between two men discovering themselves and each other in their late 40s... I honestly can't describe how important this show is and will continue to be. Anyway, I'm sad.<br /><br>

Here is an Eloise belleh, for comfort. Also possibly may be a trap, you have to stick your hand in there to find out. <br /><br><br /><br>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05085387707813881571noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5059290008841439653.post-3113054814108603582024-03-06T20:22:00.001+10:002024-03-06T20:22:11.499+10:00Midweek MunchiesHello hello!<br /><br>
Love being back, it is nice to have something familiar and comforting to return to, which is what this blog is. Easing myself back in with another midweek munchies post!<br /><br>
I love Bennetto chocolate, the raspberry one in particular is my favourite! But I finally got around to trying some other flavours. The hazelnut one is fine, I am just not as big a fan of hazelnut and chocolate as a lot of other people I think. The sea salt amaranth one was lovely, salty and cruncy and delicious. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53571244529/in/dateposted-public/" title="Benetto Chocolate"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53571244529_74a74eae23_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Benetto Chocolate"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I tried this new flavour from Plantry, their carbonara meal. It does NOT have coconut in it, which is exciting. But it is pretty bland, which is less exciting. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53571120328/in/dateposted-public/" title="Plantry Carbonara"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53571120328_0aa3b756de_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Plantry Carbonara"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Tomato and Mushroom Smoked Salt is something I didn't know I was missing in my life, but it is so good!<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53570922626/in/dateposted-public/" title="Smoked Tomato & Mushroom Salt"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53570922626_a2e482b319_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Smoked Tomato & Mushroom Salt"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
These Lifesaver Grape Peelies are accidentally vegan (obviously they are vegan, they are on my blog), but the flavour is the gross kind of fake frape flavour and the texture is too hard, do not recomment. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53571357965/in/dateposted-public/" title="Grape Lifesaver Peelies"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53571357965_4b12d56a30_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Grape Lifesaver Peelies"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Sometimes you raid the freezer for a very silly dinner. Like this one, with Pie Society Meatless Party Pies and Not Nuggets. I'd heard good things about the nuggets, but I found them pretty meh. The party pies were great! I love Pie Society's vegan pies. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53570922576/in/dateposted-public/" title="Party Pies and Nuggets"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53570922576_f7ff05ec38_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Party Pies and Nuggets"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53570922501/in/dateposted-public/" title="Party Pies and Nuggets"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53570922501_6cf537d711_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Party Pies and Nuggets"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
My friend from Scotland sent me this very deliciously dark chocolate. I hope I will be able to get some myself when I am there in... SIX WEEKS! You know I love my chocolate dark, and you can't get darker than this. SO GOOD. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53571120208/in/dateposted-public/" title="Montezuma's 100% Dark Chocolate"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53571120208_374db6b524_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Montezuma's 100% Dark Chocolate"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
These Vegan Cheddar Cauliflower Puffs had some sort of weird taste to them. I wouldn't get them again. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53571357860/in/dateposted-public/" title="Cauliflower Puffs"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53571357860_e492639da8_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Cauliflower Puffs"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Finally these vegan lentil chips, which a friend told me about. I got them from The Reject Shop, and I don't know if they're available anymore. Which is a shame, because they are so good. I love both flavours. They also had a third one but it was spicy. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53571357875/in/dateposted-public/" title="Lentil Chips"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53571357875_f7479b386d_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Lentil Chips"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Before we move onto the cats...<br /><br>
I am once again just a girl, standing in front of the internet, asking everyone to please sign and share the <a href="https://www.change.org/p/save-our-flag-means-death" target="blank">Our Flag Means Death</a>.<br /><br>

A very thoughtful Mirabelle. <br /><br><br /><br>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05085387707813881571noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5059290008841439653.post-67746938358323380902024-02-28T13:23:00.002+10:002024-02-28T13:23:41.893+10:00Midweek MunchiesHello friends! <br /><br>
Yesterday I got back from a trip to Sydney (the first trip I've been on since several years before COVID even started), where I saw Taylor Swift! I also ate some great food. And I wore my N95 mask and sprayed my nasal spray frequently because we are still in a pandemic! Even if I was the only one who was doing that. <br /><br>
I will share some of my Sydney foods soon, but today as I ease back into blogging it seemed like some Midweek Munchies would be a good way to go. Especially as it is Wednesday today. So, let's see if I can remember anything about these things!<br /><br>
I love kraut, and I love dill pickles, and this was an excellent combination. I had it on sandwiches, salads, and bowls, and very much enjoyed it. I'd buy it again. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53555919167/in/dateposted-public/" title="Dill Pickle Kraut"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53555919167_463d651f44_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Dill Pickle Kraut"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
This is a new brand of vegan M&M type things, that you can get in Woolworths. They suffer slightly from them trying to reduce the sugar content in it, but at least they don't have stevia in them. They use monkfruit. The peanut ones are the best!<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53556767466/in/dateposted-public/" title="Vegan M&Ms"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53556767466_51ebc99e72_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Vegan M&Ms"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
After trying the Impressed Strawberry Oat Milk, I tried the chocolate one after I found it on sale. Again, a but of a funny aftertaste, there are much better vegan chocolate milks out there. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53555919087/in/dateposted-public/" title="Impressed Chocolate Oat Milk"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53555919087_e9ecc9f08a_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Impressed Chocolate Oat Milk"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
It had been years since I'd had the Field Roast burgers, but they were on sale at The Green Edge so I bought some and stashed them in my freezer until the time was right. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed them!<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53557108484/in/dateposted-public/" title="Field Roast Burgers"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53557108484_d60b164695_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Field Roast Burgers"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Some yummy savoury pies from Coles. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53556968078/in/dateposted-public/" title="Nature's Kitchen Mushroom and Lentil Pies"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53556968078_bd6283829d_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Nature's Kitchen Mushroom and Lentil Pies"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I found these vegan friendly chips at Ikea. I don't remember what they were like, which I guess means they were fine. Not good enough or bad enough to leave an impression. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53557108489/in/dateposted-public/" title="Ikea Chips"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53557108489_b3a836aee2_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Ikea Chips"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Of course I had to buy the sweet mustard pickle made with kombucha, how ridiculous. Alas, it wasn't that good. I like my sweet mustard pickle to have actual chunks of pickle in it, and this was weirdly smooth and sludgy. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53556978538/in/dateposted-public/" title="Kombucha Mustard Pickle"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53556978538_b79a5dea9d_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Kombucha Mustard Pickle"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Coles makes a Vegan Caesar Salad dressing, and it is great! Though the most recent bottle I got looks different, so I hope they haven't changed the recipe. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53556778061/in/dateposted-public/" title="Caesar Dressing"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53556778061_859d44b61c_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Caesar Dressing"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>

Eloise, helping me pack for Sydney. <br /><br><br /><br>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05085387707813881571noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5059290008841439653.post-9611397419750919632024-02-18T20:24:00.002+10:002024-02-18T20:25:48.525+10:00BrisVenture 2023 Day Six and Seven: The Final Edition (also, I LIVE!)HELLO FRIENDS, I AM ALIVE!<br /><br>
I don't know how it has been almost three months since I have posted on here. Time and things just got away from me. Then I fell into a spiral where I was really far behind on catching up on blog posts, but then for some reason blogger and google wouldn't communicate properly and stopped me from commenting a bunch, so then I felt bad about posting again before I'd caught up. Which is silly talk, I can post and then catch up! Also I have fixed the blogger/google thing so now I can comment again on the posts I still haven't read.<br /><br>
So, what have I been doing?? I have been pretty much working, being with my cats, and my hyperfixation on Our Flag Means Death is as strong as ever. Did you know that MAX cancelled the show even though pre-production for the third season was already underway, and it is one of their highest rating shows?? They did. And it may sound silly, but that really put me in a very not good place. Thankfully part of my OFMD hyperfixation is that I have a wonderful community online of fellow fans, how great is that! Also, we are going to save our show, or possibly die trying.<br /><br>
With that in mind, before you read on could you please visit <a href="https://www.change.org/p/save-our-flag-means-death" target="blank">SaveOFMD.com</a> and sign the petition? Sign it from every email account you have. Share it with your friends, family, colleagues, strangers. The petition is just one part of the campaign to save the show, but every signature could help!<br /><br>
But I know what you are here for, food times! So, time to finish up my adventures with my friends who visited me in November. On our final day, we went to a vegan market. Not one of the regular Brisbane Vegan Markets, this was a ticketed event for one weekend only. I was thinking it was going to be like the <a href="https://kittensgonelentil.blogspot.com/2019/10/brisbane-vegan-expo-2019.html" target="blank">Brisbane Vegan Expo</a> I'd been to before. I could not have been more wrong. It was tiny, and had almost no interesting stalls. We were so disappointed. Luckily, it at least had a small collection of food stalls that we visited. And it was in a pretty location.<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53363553703/in/dateposted-public/" title="The Vegan Market"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53363553703_69dcf2d3cd_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="The Vegan Market"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Helen went straight for this plate of Balinese food. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53363670149/in/dateposted-public/" title="Balinese Food"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53363670149_aaa289e686_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Balinese Food"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I started with some tofu rice paper rolls. Molly also got a noodle bowl from the same stall, but I forgot to take a photo of that!<br /><br>

And Sharnette tried a cheeseburger served on a doughnut bun from Vegood!<br /><br>

I also got a pretzel with mustard beer sauce, and a trio of bao from Vegood. <br /><br>

And we all got some lychee iced tea, lychee was the flavour of the day!<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53363553553/in/dateposted-public/" title="Lychee Drink"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53363553553_786730d98a_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Lychee Drink"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
What did we do after this? We went home and did... things. I don't quite remember what we got up to in the afternoon. But I do remember we got pizza for dinner from Pizza Hut, and everyone was very impressed that we had several pizza chains with vegan options. We also had fairy bread and Vegemite on toast, and watched the movie of What We Do In The Shadows.<br /><br>
We had a pretty low key day for the final day, starting with Helen making us all beans on toast. This is a very common thing here in Australia, but apparently not in the US!<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53362464427/in/dateposted-public/" title="Beans on Toast"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53362464427_1686523453_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Beans on Toast"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
We ate some vegan meat pies for lunch (apparently also not a thing in the US) and then went back to The Green Edge for everyone to do a final shop. Then home for Helen to make us dinner! Helen and Molly had bought some Plant Based Garlic Kievs, and we cooked those up with some sauteed brocollini and roasted potatoes. <br /><br>

Early the next morning, I took them to the airport and they headed off to Sydney. I had so much fun with them while they were here! Australia is so far away from most of the rest of the world, and Brisbane doesn't have the general appeal of Melbourne or Sydney, so the fact that they came and spent a whole week with me was so special! And I'm always open to visitors from cool overseas friends!!<br /><br>
I plan to be back as much as I can. I still have so many photos to share for things! Though lately I have hardly been cooking, thanks fibro! Chronic pain and fatige sucks. I also have some cool things coming up - I am going to Sydney on the weekend to see Taylor's final Australian Era's show on Monday the 26th of Feb, and then this time in two months I will be on my Scotland/Barcelona adventure! All with my N95 mask strapped to my face, of course.<br /><br>
How have you all been??<br /><br>

I took then out to <a href="https://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/Things-to-do/Parks-gardens-reserves/Park-Finder/Coombabah-Lakelands-Conservation-Area" target="blank">Coombabah</a> at the Gold Coast, for some guaranteed kangaroo watching and probably koala sightings. I am happy to report that both were achieved! Excuse the fuzzy koala picks, it really is like trying to photograph a backlit blob high up in a tree. <br /><br>

On the Wednesday, after two hectic days and several early mornings before they arrived, my fibro came knocking. So they all caught a bus into the city to explore, and I stayed home and watched Buffy and rested. <br /><br>
I needed my rest because the next day I had arranged a private tour of <a href="https://crankysfarm.org.au/" target="blank">Cranky's Farm</a>, a farm animal sanctuary that I had been to a few times before. We had an incredible tour, and got to meet so many glorious animals. The goats were off doing their own goaty thing in a far paddock, but we met cows, pigs, equines, and birds. <br /><br>
Jonny is one of two mini horses they have at the farm. Both were rescued at separate times, but both had horrific foot conditions. Happily both were rehabilitated, and now they are silly little jerks together. They also have three donkeys as well.<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53333950127/in/dateposted-public/" title="Cranky's Farm"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53333950127_4668bbb031_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Cranky's Farm"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Marley is a tiny calf, only 39 days old, who they rescued and are hand raising. He was so tiny and gentle and sweet. He has been unwell for the last week, so please keep him in your thoughts. They also have a calf there called Fern, a bit older than Marley, who is partially blind but very sassy. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53335170449/in/dateposted-public/" title="Cranky's Farm"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53335170449_3c0287d4f3_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Cranky's Farm"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Their big paddock houses a beautiful herd of cows! They were thankfully up the top of the paddock, not down the bottom of the giant hill where the goats were, so we could easily visit with them. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53335170344/in/dateposted-public/" title="Cranky's Farm"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53335170344_f50fb71eed_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Cranky's Farm"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53333952727/in/dateposted-public/" title="Cranky's Farm"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53333952727_3d2b3eae6c_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Cranky's Farm"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I also got to meet my favourite cow Freckles. I love him. He is typically a shy cow, so when I have been there before for open days he stayed away from the big group. But this time I was blessed with a little sniff and a tiny pat. Thank you Freckles! Isn't he handsome? <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53333950022/in/dateposted-public/" title="Cranky's Farm"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53333950022_43c32e4f86_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Cranky's Farm"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Next up was a visit with Lopez, an ex-racehorse. He is beautiful! I love horses. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53335293960/in/dateposted-public/" title="Cranky's Farm"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53335293960_1338c1b3a7_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Cranky's Farm"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Lopez was in a paddock with a beautiful giant Moreton Bay fig tree. The rest of us waited under the shade here while Helen trekked down to the bottom of the property to see if she could find their resident platypus who lives in a pond there. She did not have any sightings, but was definitely in a platypus vicinity. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53335293960/in/dateposted-public/" title="Cranky's Farm"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53335293960_1338c1b3a7_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Cranky's Farm"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
The final cow on our tour to meet was Peggy, who is a lovely girl. She had a femoral head osteotomy for a broken hip after she first arrived. We do that on cats and dogs, I had no idea it could be done on a large cow! She was chilling and snoozing in the sun, and couldn't be bothered getting up for us but was very happy to receive pats and adoration. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53335290835/in/dateposted-public/" title="Cranky's Farm"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53335290835_6759289cfa_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Cranky's Farm"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
We finished by meeting some of the birds they have there, including Gloria the turkey and (not pictured) Frank the duck. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53335065123/in/dateposted-public/" title="Cranky's Farm"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53335065123_dd8b8028c7_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Cranky's Farm"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
After our tour, we went to a lookout just a few minutes down the road to admire the view and also use the public bathrooms. It was a pretty view!<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53334828986/in/dateposted-public/" title="Mt Mee Lookout"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53334828986_8c39acff90_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Mt Mee Lookout"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
And then we headed to another little park called Cedar Creek, which claimed to also be home to platypi and other wildlife. It was a pretty place, though my ankles absolutely did not want to stabilise on the rocks so I ended up sitting under a tree doing some reading while the others explored. We only saw birds, but birds are still cool, including a kookaburra. <br /><br>

Then we headed home. We had eaten a decent breakfast before we left, and I had packed some Clif Bars and dried fruit for snacking on, but we found ourselves close to <a href="https://veganyummbakehouse.com.au/" target="blank">VeganYumm</a>, a vegan bakery, so stopped in to get some treats for a late lunch when we got home. I had a creamy chicken pie (not pictured), which was OK. But I was able to get a naked cinnamon roll, my favourite! I hate it when people ruing a perfectly good cinnamon roll with glaze or icing. <br /><br>

We had a small dinner after our very late lunch, and ordered in some Pizza Hut vegan pizza and vegan cheese garlic bread. <br /><br>

Stay tuned for a much more food heavy post from day 5!<br /><br>

I had ordered a ridiculous cake for us all to share (Molly and I shared my birthday celebrations last time she was here, even though her birthday was much earlier in the year, so we made it a four way celebration this time). We had to pick the cake up from a place in northern Brisbane, so it made sense to have a little road trip up to the sunshine coast for lunch. <br /><br>
Helen was also extremely excited to find out that <a href="https://www.bigpineapple.com.au/" target="blank">The Big Pineapple</a> was not far away from where we were going, so we headed their first. I haven't been here since I was a kid, and it closed for a while, but now seems to have reopened. The pineapple was not as big as I remembered! We took some photos of the pineapple, and then also did some tourist shopping at the little kiosk there, which randomly happened to have a freezer full of mini vegan ice cream tubs! We did not go to the zoo there, obviously. It looks like, according to the website, they are planning on redeveloping the whole area into an event space as well. But for the moment, it is just a fun little roadside attraction. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53333318548/in/dateposted-public/" title="The Big Pineapple"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53333318548_9a07dfac73_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="The Big Pineapple"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
After this, we headed to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/cafeviebuderim/" target="blank">Cafe Vie</a> for lunch. We kept up the fancy latte theme from yesterday. Helen and Sharnette both had the Blue Matcha Latte (not actually matcha at all - butterfly pea powder, coconut blossom, ginger) and I had the Little Cin (cinnamon, cardomom, ginger, cloves, coconut blossom). Both were really nice. And pretty. <br /><br>

For lunch, we got some Japanese Curry Fries to share, which were excellent!<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53333318453/in/dateposted-public/" title="Japanese Curry Fries at Cafe Vie"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53333318453_31f2a95a78_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Japanese Curry Fries at Cafe Vie"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I had the OG Veggs Benedict Croissant (cheesy tofu scramble, spinach, tomato relish, hollandaise on a croissant with added facon and a rosti. Everything was excellent, except for the rosti. They used to make good rosti, but I guess they changed it and now it is not good. But the rest, so nice. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53333318498/in/dateposted-public/" title="OG Veggs Benedict Croissant at Cafe Vie"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53333318498_28c40101b8_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="OG Veggs Benedict Croissant at Cafe Vie"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I can't remember exactly who got what, but the others got the Crispy Mushroom Parmy Burger and the Crispy Chick'n Parmy Burger, which also had facon, cheese, tomato relish, and herb aioli. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53332212997/in/dateposted-public/" title="Mushi Parmi at Cafe Vie"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53332212997_78c9c5caf3_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Mushi Parmi at Cafe Vie"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>

Molly also got a croissant with cheese scramble to try. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53333318488/in/dateposted-public/" title="Croissant with Tofu Scramble at Cafe Vie"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53333318488_d7cdd02db3_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Croissant with Tofu Scramble at Cafe Vie"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Afterwards, we went to a little op shop, and then to a lookout area that had a nice view to the ocean. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53333091151/in/dateposted-public/" title="View from Buderim"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53333091151_7d2ebe44fb_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="View from Buderim"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Afterwards it was cake pick up and home. We were pretty full from lunch, so we ordered a lighter dinner from Vietfoods Springwood. I had the Tofu Vermicelli Rice Bowl. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53332212877/in/dateposted-public/" title="Tofu Bun from VietFoods Springwood"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53332212877_7226c117cc_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Tofu Bun from VietFoods Springwood"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
And then it was time for cake! I ordered the cake through Brisbane-based vegan caterer <a href="https://www.vegoodfood.com.au/" target="blank">Vegood</a>. I wanted something very ridiculous and pretty and pink, and they delivered with this gorgeous three layer vintage heart pink strawberries and cream cake. IT IS SO PRETTY! I got them to put a cat-themed decoration on top. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53333091141/in/dateposted-public/" title="Birthday Cake from Vegood"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53333091141_c823946966_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Birthday Cake from Vegood"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
And here is an inside shot! Three layers of pink cake, with buttercream and freshly made strabwrry compote between them, covered in cream buttercream. I am not an icing fan, but apparently cream buttercream is less sweet than traditional buttercream or meringe buttercream. It was a ton of icing, but it was good! The best icing! There was also some leftover compote, so they gave me that in a cute little jar to take home.<br /><br>

She turned seven years old. <br /><br><br /><br>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05085387707813881571noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5059290008841439653.post-6815577410283265942023-11-15T14:54:00.004+10:002023-11-15T14:55:39.131+10:00BrisVenture 2023: Day 1: The Green Edge, SushiHello friends! Last week the magical happened, and I had three friends from the US come and stay with me! My friend Molly had come and stayed with me in <a href="https://kittensgonelentil.blogspot.com/search/label/molly%20adventure%202017" target="blank">2017</a>, but this time she brought my long time Seattle friend Helen with her, plus new friend Sharnette. Helen and I have known each other for just over ten years, ever since she slid into my DMs on my second visit to Seattle and we had dinner. I have since visited her there twice more, including staying with her during my final visit, but it has been EIGHT YEARS since we have seen each other, and for her to be here in my hometown was incredible! They arrived early Monday morning, and I picked them up from the airport. I also saw these two coming through customs. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53333393844/in/dateposted-public/" title="Dinos at the airport"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53333393844_0c3b5a6428_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Dinos at the airport"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
After initial pick up, it was home for them to all have a shower (it was a long flight, made longer by delays) and get situated. Then we headed out for some food and vegan shopping at <a href="https://www.greenedgeonline.com.au/" target ="blank">The Green Edge</a> (see my previous posts about The Green Edge <a href="https://kittensgonelentil.blogspot.com/search?q=the+green+edge" target="blank">here</a>). We ordered a lot of food! And some very fun drinks. Including the Strawberries & Cream Frappe for Sharnette, colourful lattes (turmeric for me, matcha for Molly, beetroot for Helen) and Helen also got a Salted Caramel Milkshake.<br /><br>

Lunch started with some chips and some Buffalo cauliflower wings. <br /><br>

Helen was committed to trying Australian things while she was here, so she got the Origin Burger (it has beetroot, which makes it Australian), where as Molly and Sharnette for the VFC Four Piece Meal and the VFC Burger respectively. I had the Mac & Cheese with a side of turkish bread. Sharnette also got the Truffled Mac & Cheese to try and take home for later. <br /><br>

After lunch, some shopping was done at The Green Edge for fun things. Then I took them to our two major supermarkets, Coles and Woolworths, so they could see and buy some of the vegan things we have available here. It was a pretty fun shopping trip! <br /><br >
After that we headed home for a very relaxed evening and early night. For dinner we ordered in some vegan sushi from a place called Sushi Too: Mini Tofu Rolls, Mini Avocado Rolls, Mini Pickle Rolls, Tofu and Vegetable Rolls, Inari, and Seaweed salad. <br /><br>

One of the joys was introducing my girls to my friends! Eloise is pretty shy when you first meet her, and it took her a few days to fully warm up, but she was much admired. Obviously. <br /><br><br /><br>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05085387707813881571noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5059290008841439653.post-63067579883828369112023-11-05T10:07:00.003+10:002023-11-05T10:08:58.683+10:00Recipe Round-Up: Cookin' CrunkFinally finishing my current round-up from Cookin' Crunk by <a href="https://vegancrunk.blogspot.com/" target="blank">Bianca Phillips</a>. You can see my other posts about this book <a href="https://kittensgonelentil.blogspot.com/search/label/cookin%27%20crunk" target="blank">here</a>.<br /><br>
<u>Brown-Sugar Baked Ham</u> with <u>Caramelised Cabbage and Onion</u>: I have made this ham recipe twice, because the first time I realised that I only put in 1 tsp of brown sugar instead of 1 TBS! Ooops. Definitely make sure to get that right. The marinade is very easy to make. The actual recipe in the book uses leftover marinade to make a coffee gravy, but as I am coffe adverse I skipped this and used a normal gravy. I also served it with the cabbage and onion dish. This one is quite sweet (it does have sugar in it) but very nice. Excellent with some roasted potatoes and the salty gravy. <br />
Rating: Tofu Ham :), Cabbage and Onion :) <br /><br>

<u>Chocolate Gravy</u>: This is easy to make and sort of a cross between a chocolate sauce and a chocolate pudding. The book suggests serving it over some buttermilk biscuits (recipe also in the book), but I took an easier route and served it over some pancakes (purchased ready made and heated in the oven), vanilla yoghurt, and berries. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53310005378/in/dateposted-public/" title="Chocolate Gravy"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53310005378_9617a702cc_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Chocolate Gravy"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Bringing Home the Tempeh Bacon</u>: This bacon has a lovely marinade that includes hoisin sauce (yum) and is very easy to put together. There is heaps of marinade, so I froze the leftovers to make future batches. I served this bacon so many ways. Over some mac and cheese, in a BLT, and snacked right on its own. <br />

<u>No-Tell Ro*Tel Cheese Dip</u>: I've never had the original before, but this is a vegan silken tofu based version. I love a silken tofu based dip or sauce. I did use plain tomatoes instead of tomatoes with green chiles. It came together super fast, and thickens up very well on the stove. Instead of serving it as a dip, I used it to make nachos. <br />

<u>BBQ 'Pulled' Tempeh and Carrot</u>: This is meant to be made as a sandwich filling, alongside some crunchy coleslaw. But I switched it up and turned it into a bowl instead. It is really easy to make, with crumbled tempeh, grated carrots, and BBQ sauce the main features. I served it over some rice, spinach, and roasted carrots and drizzled with some more BBQ sauce and a creamy bottled dressing. <br />

And there ends this current go through of Cookin' Crunk! I really wanted to get it wrapped up today, because I have an exciting week coming up. Tomorrow my friends Molly and Helen (and Molly's friend Sharnette) are arriving from the US to come and visit me for a a week! I haven't seen Molly in 6 years since she was <a href="https://kittensgonelentil.blogspot.com/search/label/molly%20adventure%202017" target="blank">last here</a>, and it has been even longer since I <a href="https://kittensgonelentil.blogspot.com/search/label/USA%202015" target="blank">visited</a> Helen in Seattle. I had a longstanding plan that after Dim Sim passed, I was going to drop everything and take off to Seattle to cry on Helen's couch for a few months, but COVID ruined that coping strategy. I will of course share our adventures on the blog. <br /><br>

I am still suffering from gay pirate show brain rot aka Our Flag Means Death hyperfixation, there are many of us around the world afflicted, but none of us are complaining. Here is some food. <br /><br>
I love this Three Olive plant based dip. It is creamy and briny and so good for dipping or on sandwiches. Definitely recommend. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53301406893/in/dateposted-public/" title="Three Olive Dip"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53301406893_53a7ca4eb4_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Three Olive Dip"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
These Vegan Cheese Pretzels had just a bit of a strange taste to them. It was kind of cheesy but also not quite cheesy? <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53301535889/in/dateposted-public/" title="Vegan Cheddar Pretzels"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53301535889_f2360768fb_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Vegan Cheddar Pretzels"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Bought some extremely fancy Raspberry and Rose marshmallows. They were absolutely delightful, gorgeous flavour. They are definitely not cheap, so a special occasion item, but the flavours were incredible. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53301643235/in/dateposted-public/" title="Fancy Marshmallows"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53301643235_66209feb6a_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Fancy Marshmallows"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I don't remember where I bought this, but it was quite lovely. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53301535804/in/dateposted-public/" title="Fancy Drink"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53301535804_a446418cc3_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Fancy Drink"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
As my beloved Mojo kombucha stopped production, I did find two boxes of these before they vanished all together. I hadn't ever tried these before. They were really nice, like a tropical kombucha, they vaguely reminded me of Passiona but better, which may be an Australian drink reference no one will understand. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53300303982/in/dateposted-public/" title="Mojo Soda"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53300303982_919fac5da2_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Mojo Soda"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Some new vegan Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavours. The Netflix & Chill'd was really nice. The Berry Revolutionary was just OK. I love berry flavoured ice creams, but something about the flavour of this one was a bit meh. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53300303987/in/dateposted-public/" title="Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53300303987_2748dcef23_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
A friend gave me these and they were really good! I ate them on a bad fibro flare day, when I am often not very hungry. But for some reason these were exactly what I wanted. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53301162256/in/dateposted-public/" title="Chocolate Covered Strawberries"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53301162256_b1dabbc1eb_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Chocolate Covered Strawberries"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Finishing off with a new strawberry oat milk that is in supermarkets. Unfortunately it has a very strange after taste. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53301643105/in/dateposted-public/" title="Impressed Strawberry Oat Milk"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53301643105_ba197fd603_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Impressed Strawberry Oat Milk"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>

It's been a while since I've posted about any of the <a href="https://kittensgonelentil.blogspot.com/search/label/sabbat" target="blank">sabbats</a> and the food I have made for them. In part due to not being very consistent with blogging, in part due to not being very aware of the passage of time or having a lot of energy. Anyway, here is a bit of a catch up. <br /><br>
<b>Mabon</b> aka Autumn Equinox (20th March, 2023)<br /><br>
I bought a bunch of stuff for snacking throughout the week, to live my best autumn snacking life. The Fix and Fogg Pumpkin Pie Butter was a gift from a friend who brought it back from New Zealand with me, and it is so incredible! Absolutely delicious. Fantastic on apple slices. I also had some apple cinnamon jam, which was very sweet. Some pumpkin bread, pink lady apples, and some cashew mushroom cheese for fun. I made a lot of different and excellent snacks with these. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53294039894/in/dateposted-public/" title="Mabon supplies"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53294039894_e4db4505e9_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Mabon supplies"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<a href="https://www.lazycatkitchen.com/vegan-tagine-butternut-squash/" target="blank">Vegan Tagine with Butternut Squash</a> from Lazy Cat Kitchen: I also made an actual dinner, sticking with the autumn theme. This tagine with butternut squash was full of flavour, though I of course left out the chili flakes. I served it over some buttered cous cous. I hardly ever eat cous cous, but it is always delightful when I do. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53294039889/in/dateposted-public/" title="Vegan Tagine with Butternut Squash"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53294039889_fc7af94b5e_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Vegan Tagine with Butternut Squash"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<b>Samhain</b> (30th April - 1st May 2023)<br /><br>
Halloween gets a lot of its pagan roots from Samhain, which is also consider the beginning of the new year in the sabbat cycle. I kept things seasonal and also kept it colour themed with black and orange for fun. <br /><br>
<u>Roasted Red Onion & Butternut Squash Salad</u> from Cook Share Eat Vegan by Aine Carlin: This is a lovely salad, which I served warm. It was meant to be served with black quinoa, but I used black rice instead. It has a bunch of different ingredients to give a lovely flavour, though I left out the figs because I don't like them and it really didn't need it. The salad is a mix of cooked savoy cabbage and the rice, the roasted vegetables, and is topped with a creamy sunflower seed dressing. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>

<b>Yule</b> aka Winter Solstice (22nd June 2023)<br /><br>
This was in the lead up to my PhD being due, and I had zero energy for anything. But my mum happened to make a Japanese Curry that night, and what a perfect way to celebrate the longest night of the year. A steaming bowl of Japanese Curry and rice was just right. We use the S&B Mild Japanese Curry paste, which is so good and has zero heat in it. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53293665936/in/dateposted-public/" title="Japanese Curry made by mum"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53293665936_05295a9e16_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Japanese Curry made by mum"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<b>Imbolc</b> (1st August 2023)<br /><br>
Confession, I totally missed this date. Imbolc is meant to celebrate the midpoint of winter. I had nothing planned because I didn't even realise it was happening. But when I looked back I realised that I did make something kind of appropriate for it. Red is a traditional colour for Imbolc, and I just so happened to make a kidney bean and red wine slow cooker stew! I used a Masterfoods recipe base for it (substituting kidney beans for the dead animals it called for), and it also had mushrooms and carrots in it. Served over some spinach and brown rice, this was very yummy and I would absolutely make it again. <br /><br>

We are two days away from Beltane, so let's see if I manage anything for that. Hope everyone is hanging in there, the year seems to be going so quickly. <br /><br>

Back with another easy midweek munchies post. I am back at work this week, holidays over. Also every spare cell of brain space I have is currently taken up with my Our Flag Means Death hyperfixation. I did go to the Taylor Swift Era's film last week as well (N95 mask firmly attached), and 1989 Taylor's Version comes out on Friday. So my niche fixation is finding OFDM edits to Taylor Swift songs on TikTok. What a time to be alive. But here are some snacks and things. <br /><br>
I bought this Black Lemonade brownie mix ages ago, and finally used it to take to a housewarming. It is also gluten free (the person I was going to see is gluten free, so that was handy) and extremely east to make. The brownies were incredible, I could not tell they were gluten free, and I loved the tangy raspberry flavour in them. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53283862890/in/dateposted-public/" title="Black Lemonade Bakery Brownies"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53283862890_5cbcc343ed_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Black Lemonade Bakery Brownies"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Some vegan fairy bread, which I enjoyed at said housewarming. Going to a housewarming was a bit strange given *gestures at pandemic*, but I wore a mask except for the very quick times I nipped off for a snack. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53283653538/in/dateposted-public/" title="Fairy Bread"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53283653538_f0c78bf8b6_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Fairy Bread"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
These vegan Japanese sauces are available at Woolworths. I used the Yakisoba sauce to make some quick yakisoba using some noodles, prepared tofu, and stir-fry vegetables. The okonomi sauce is excellent for putting on or mixing through things as well.<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53283776609/in/dateposted-public/" title="Japanese Sauces"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53283776609_1e7d1cf38f_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Japanese Sauces"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53283404161/in/dateposted-public/" title="Yakisoba"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53283404161_fb4e5f3949_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Yakisoba"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I got these Pickled Mushroom chips from Ikea! They needed more flavour on them, but I could get a hint of pickled and maybe a whisper of earthy mushroom from them. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53283776484/in/dateposted-public/" title="Ikea Chips"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53283776484_09ff860c88_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Ikea Chips"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
New vegan deli slices dropped at Coles, though I haven't seen them since. They were OK, the salami has a lot of pepper in it. The chicken slices were the best, and better than the other vegan chicken slices on the market. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53283776494/in/dateposted-public/" title="Slices"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53283776494_e2bfeef107_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Slices"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Cheese and Onion Crunchy Corn that a friend from Scotland sent me! These were so fun, and had a really nice flavour. I am not a fan of popcorn, but I am a fan of these crunchy corn kernels.<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53283653393/in/dateposted-public/" title="BBQ corn from Scotland"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53283653393_61ba4fc09f_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="BBQ corn from Scotland"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Finally someone gave me some of the new Whittakers Oat Milk Chocolate. It is not bad for a milk-style chocolate, not too sweet. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53283862740/in/dateposted-public/" title="Whittakers Oat Milk"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53283862740_24e4febbd6_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Whittakers Oat Milk"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Tell me what you have been hyperfixating on lately? Or I guess, if you have a neurotypical brain, what you have been enjoying. <br /><br>

I have been on holidays for the last week, going no where, house to myself and the cats, having a lovely time. I suppose I could have been posting every day, but I wasn't feeling the vibe until today. So here are some midweek munchies!<br /><br>
I found this purple corn drink in a market with a lot of international options, this was from the Peruvian section. It mostly just tasted sweet, but did have a bit of a corn undertaste. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53266889345/in/dateposted-public/" title="Corn drink"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53266889345_aff334bdda_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Corn drink"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
KM Foods is a small vegan business based in Brisbane, and they have started making frozen cheesecakes you can pick up from the Green Edge. This was their strawberry one. Really lovely flavour and great creamy filling, though the base could have been a bit crunchier. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53266767954/in/dateposted-public/" title="Strawberry Cheesecake"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53266767954_c68a819024_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Strawberry Cheesecake"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I got this Bolognese mix on sale, which was basically just bolognese seasoned TVP. But it made for a quick and easy dinner one night. I added carrots, celery, and mushrooms. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53265527472/in/dateposted-public/" title="Bolognese"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53265527472_25716d90ea_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Bolognese"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Coles brought out a jumbo vegan chocolate chip cookie in their fresh bakery range. I was super excited, because it seemed like it was the sort of thing that gets baked fresh daily. But when I finally found one, it had like a week's expiry on it. So I guess it technically is baked fresh at some point! It was still good. I have heard from others that the best way to eat it is to heat it gently in the microwave. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53266418391/in/dateposted-public/" title="Coles Jumbo Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53266418391_b764061afc_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Coles Jumbo Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Get Plant'd brought out some vegan slices - ham and steak slices. The ham is probabl the best ham since Tofurky become unavailable, However, lately, every package has gone mouldy, so I am not buying them until they sort it out. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53266889245/in/dateposted-public/" title="New slices"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53266889245_acc26ca3e1_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="New slices"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Brazilian Style BBQ Grill Flavoured Pringles! Are good! Of course they were a limited edition, so they don't make them anymore, but I still have a tube in my cupboard to enjoy. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53266701203/in/dateposted-public/" title="Pringles"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53266701203_25e86f0e11_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Pringles"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Has anyone been watching the new season of Our Flag Means Death? I have been completely undone by it, it has taken over my brain. I just want to scream about it. Ed is my precious baby girl and I would die for him. Etc. If you have seen it, please scream about it in the comments!<br /><br>

I have just started almost two weeks of time off work. I am staying home, hanging out with the cats, starting my yearly Buffy rewatch, catching up on some other shows, and generally just trying to chill out. Hurrah!<br /><br>
Starting the post today with these chips, which sound incredible because I love paprika. But unfortunately fall prey to the not enough flavour on them trap that so many chips seem to fall into these days. Say it with me chip companies, coat those chippies with all the flavour please!<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53249864043/in/dateposted-public/" title="Paprika Chips"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53249864043_08147669e0_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Paprika Chips"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I am loving these vegan friendly coconut chocolate macaroons. Soft pillowy mounts of coconut with a chocolate base and chocolate drizzle, they are so good! Also they have all of the good sweet coconut flavour, but none of the gross sick-making coconut fat. So it's a win for me. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53250071345/in/dateposted-public/" title="Coconut Chocolate Cookies"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53250071345_430eee89df_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Coconut Chocolate Cookies"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
A very belated sharing of some Easter chocolate I had this year. I am working through a backlog of things to share! The very last of my Treat Dreams easter bunnies, as well as a new cream egg and a cookie dough filled chocolate bunny. The cream egg was too sweet, as cream eggs always are for me, but I still insist on having at least one a year! I had heard very good things about the cookie dough bunny, and the filling was good, but unfortunately the chocolate that surrounded it was foul. I have seen the NoMo brand of chocolate around for ages, but never wanted to buy it because I suspected it would be gross. The cookie dough filling lured me in, but confirmed my suspicions.<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53249864048/in/dateposted-public/" title="Easter treats"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53249864048_432d8a67bd_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Easter treats"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Bega and Cheer, two Australian dairy brands, both launched their own vegan cheeses this year. The Cheer one is full of coconut oil, but this Bega one seems to be coconut oil free, so I gave it a cautious try. It is not good. Awful straight from the packet, marginally better melted, but I will continue on using my beloved Sheese. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53249863958/in/dateposted-public/" title="Bega vegan cheese slices"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53249863958_24c0cb77c3_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Bega vegan cheese slices"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
SaraLee has come out with some non-dairy dessert pies. Two are full of coconut cream, but not this blueberry cheesecake! It is was surprisingly good. The cheesecake filling was a little watery, but the berry topping had great flavour and the base was sweet and crunchy. Would get again. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53249569016/in/dateposted-public/" title="Blueberry Cheesecake"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53249569016_0db90793ce_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Blueberry Cheesecake"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I posted previously about how good the Toatl strawberry and chocolate oatmilk flavours are. I am not usually a caramel person, but someone said it tasted more like brown sugar, and I love brown sugar. It did taste more like caramel, but for some reason the first time I tried it I went against my usual norms and adored it. I got it a second time, and then rembered caramel is too sweet for me. If you are scratching your head at me because brown sugar and caramel taste the same, they don't to me!<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53248695072/in/dateposted-public/" title="Caramel oat milk"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53248695072_0c2fc63faa_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Caramel oat milk"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I thought I was done with sharing Treat Dreams bars in the last post, but I found one final one to share. The Orange Hazelnut Dark Chocolate. I love chocolate and orange together, which I have discovered is quit a divisive flavour combination. What side do you fall on? <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53250071205/in/dateposted-public/" title="Treat Dreams"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53250071205_676ca90c99_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Treat Dreams"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
That's it for today! What are you all up to this week? <br /><br>

This is a few recipes from my continuing adventures through Cookin' Crunk by <a href="https://vegancrunk.blogspot.com/" target="blank">Bianca Phillips</a>. See other recipes from this book I've posted about <a href="https://kittensgonelentil.blogspot.com/search/label/cookin%27%20crunk" target="blank">here</a>.<br /><br>
<u>Creamy Squash Casserole</u> and <u>Tofu Chicken</u>: The tofu chicken recipe book in this good is great - such a good marinade! I had lots of marinade in left over, so I froze it for future tofu chicken adventures. I didn't have adobo seasoning or poultry seasoning though, so I used a mix of garlic and onion powders, salt, chili-free cajun spice blend, celery seeds, and sage. It worked a treat. I served it with some Creamy Squash Casserole, which has rice and summer squash (I used zucchini). This is recipe looks very simple, but it is absolutely delicious!<br />
Rating: Tofu :), Casserole :D<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53242679608/in/dateposted-public/" title="Creamy Squash Casserole; Tofu Chicken"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53242679608_308c152a16_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Creamy Squash Casserole; Tofu Chicken"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Unfried Corn</u>: This is a quick recipe that uses frozen corn kernals (very handy). It is quite sweet, so I would decrease the amount of sugar in it substantially next time (it is only 1.5 tsp, but alongside the sweet corn that is quite a bit). The corn is cooked in a creamy soy-milk mixture, which is simmered off. I served it with some BBQ tofu and some green beans. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53242679613/in/dateposted-public/" title="Un-fried Corn"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53242679613_738afc4456_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Un-fried Corn"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Baked Curried Sweet Tater Fries</u>: These were some very nice fries! I took the option to bake them, rather than deep fry, because I don't like deep frying stuff. I made the seasoning me-friendly by using mild curry powder, smoked paprika to replace the cayenne powder, and some extra salt. Great alongside a burger. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53242679598/in/dateposted-public/" title="Curried Sweet Tater Fries"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53242679598_3d1f126088_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Curried Sweet Tater Fries"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Mama's Mac and Tomatoes</u>: This is pretty simple, with macaroni and fresh tomatoes and basil. It is also really good! The tomatoes make this incredible broth. You definitely want to make sure that you are using the best tomatoes you can for this. I served it with some herby tofu and roasted broccoli. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53242749089/in/dateposted-public/" title="Mama's Mac and Tomatoes"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53242749089_5f7ded1c3a_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Mama's Mac and Tomatoes"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Vanilla Spice Cupcakes</u>: These are an easy to make cupcake recipe, that go great however you want to serve them. The recipe in the book pairs them with a pumpkin buttercream. I was making these for pink-themed bake sale, so instead I filled them with strawberry jam and topped them with pink strawberry flavoured buttercream. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53242769904/in/dateposted-public/" title="Vanilla Spice Cupcakes"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53242769904_3c8d3e5fe1_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Vanilla Spice Cupcakes"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
This would have been my final Cookin' Crunk post, but I have a few tempeh things I want to make on my week off that I have coming up, so I have saved a couple of other photos to go along with that. Stay tuned!<br /><br>

But resurrecting myself for a little Midweek Munchies post now. <br /><br>
Double-Stuff Oreos! Two new vegan flavours here were the cinnamon bun (though I have had these before thanks to US friends) and the Choc-Hazelnut. I have to say that the Choc-Hazelnut are SO GOOD! Definitely my current flavour Oreo flavour. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53233304530/in/dateposted-public/" title="Oreos"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53233304530_5f27d7a0ee_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Oreos"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
The final one of my Treat Dreams flavours, the Emo Unicorn. This was a dark chocolate take on their original Unicon bar, which I never tried because it was white chocolate. Basically dark chocolate full of skittles, lollies, candy horns, and other things. Utterly ridiculous, so messy, but fun. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53232803066/in/dateposted-public/" title="Treat Dreams"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53232803066_fa2e3e137b_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Treat Dreams"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Artisa is a brand of vegan cheese I have never tried because it has coconut oil in it. I got this block on a super sale, so I figured if it was gross I wouldn't be wasting much money. Oh boy, was it gross. The entire block was covered in a coconut oil grease. Yuck yuck yuck. Blotting it off did not help much. Not even my parents liked it. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53233181584/in/dateposted-public/" title="Blue Cheese"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53233181584_31a2e20bbf_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Blue Cheese"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Strawberry Mylk! A fun little puch to take to work, though it did have a very weird aftertaste. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53233104008/in/dateposted-public/" title="Strawberry Milk"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53233104008_70feb62ce4_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Strawberry Milk"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I love these Lime and Cracked Pepper Chickpea Snacks. They are so tangy and savoury and crunchy. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53231934582/in/dateposted-public/" title="Roasted Chickpea Snacks"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53231934582_4be816c447_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Roasted Chickpea Snacks"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Finally, some fun vegan fruit jellies. Two fruits in strawberry jelly. The strawberry jelly was the best, strawberry being the best jelly flavour, though the fruits were a bit tough. But work it for the jelly. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53233104033/in/dateposted-public/" title="Fruits in Jelly"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53233104033_d480c0347b_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Fruits in Jelly"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Just a short little post today. Hope everyone is doing the best they can. Hang in there!<br /><br>

Like this one, the Wild Hibiscus and Wattleseed. I was extremely suspicious of this, because it is white chocolate, but people told me it had a wonderful flavour on its own. It did not. It just tasted like white chocolate and was gross. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53216782229/in/dateposted-public/" title="Treat Dreams"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53216782229_812af35e96_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Treat Dreams"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
This Lamington flavour was much better! It had berries and coconut and little crunchy bits and was very good. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53216702278/in/dateposted-public/" title="Treat Dreams"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53216702278_70c484da3b_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Treat Dreams"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I picked up this vegan jerky from Woolworths, and it was good. It takes very similar to jerky I get from the Asian grocery stores, but it was double the price, so I'll skip this particular brand in the future. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53215515452/in/dateposted-public/" title="Vegan Jerky"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53215515452_8afd1c70af_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Vegan Jerky"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
When I saw that Kehoe's was making a creamy gerkhin dip, I immediately went out and bought some. I had such high, high, high hopes. And friends, they were crushed. This was SO salty. It just tasted like salt. What an epic disappointment, especially as this brand is not cheap. I'll just make my own gherkin dip in the future. <br /><br>

Incredible new flavoured oat milks have dropped! This brand is available in certain petrol stations, including the petrol station I fill up with! It is the best vegan flavoured milk I've ever had. <br /><br>

Another Treat Dreams flavour, this Toffee Crunch is classic. A dark chocolate with little bits of toffee in it. Normally I don't like toffee, but this is not super sweet and the toffee bits were nice and crunchy. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53216702113/in/dateposted-public/" title="Treat Dreams"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53216702113_26324bf7c2_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Treat Dreams"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I have known that Sour Patch Kids are vegan for a long time, and I finally tried them. These were cherry cola, pineapple, mango peach, and blue raspberry flavoured. Pineapple and mango peach were my favourite flavours, but overall there are other vegan gummy lollies that I prefer. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53215515337/in/dateposted-public/" title="Sour Patch Kids"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53215515337_2e85053b9e_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Sour Patch Kids"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Finishing it off with some Kombucha. I mentioned the Jiva kombucha flavour I tried but didn't like in the last midweek munchies post, but there are the two flavours that I do like! Pomegranate, and Mango and Passionfruit. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53216782139/in/dateposted-public/" title="Jiva Kombucha"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53216782139_f467df6b23_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Jiva Kombucha"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>

Eloise turned two years old yesterday! And what did we do to celebrate? I brought her home some chippies from the McDonalds' drive through (McDonalds fries are vegan here) for a birthday treat. This girl loves her chippies!<br /><br><br /><br>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05085387707813881571noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5059290008841439653.post-5571005622256220362023-09-24T13:02:00.000+10:002023-09-24T13:02:03.296+10:00Recipe Round-Up: Cookin' CrunkPopping back with another post about Cookin' Crunk, by <a href="http://vegancrunk.blogspot.com/" target="blank">Bianca Phillips</a>. <u>Mess o' Greens with Turnips</u> and <u>Granny's Corn Casserole</u>: I rounded out this meal with some Field Roast meatloaf that was lingering in my freezer. The slowly simmered turnips were so lovely! I cannot get collard greens or mustard greens here. I probably should have gone for kale, but I took the easier option of baby spinach that I ended just in the last few minutes. The casserole was lovely and creamy (thanks to cream cheese). I left out the pimentos and chiles, and added some celery, to keep it mild. <br />
Rating: Turnips :), Casserole :) <br /><br>

<u>Seitan Beef Stew</u>: This is great for cold weather! Instead of seitan, I used big TVP chunks that softened up wonderfully during cooking and absorbed all the flavour. I used baby spinach instead of kale for the greens. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53209379565/in/dateposted-public/" title="Seitan Beef Stew"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53209379565_5505fc14d2_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Seitan Beef Stew"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Seitan Tips over Brown Rice</u>: I used some beef-style strips in this recipe, which came together very quickly. I used carrot and celery instead of capsicum, as per usual. It also has mushrooms in it, and has a great savoury taste. I got three serves out of this, served over brown rice as instructed. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53208868631/in/dateposted-public/" title="Seitan Tips over Brown Rice"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53208868631_b720978e94_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Seitan Tips over Brown Rice"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Eggplant and Sausage Jambalaya</u>: I took the easy route with this recipe, and after sauteeing the vegetables I threw everything in the rice cooker (except the sausages) and forgot about it until dinner time, which was great! I used some Field Roast sausages, and zucchini instead of capsicum, and I also left out the spicy parts. The sausages are slices, sauteed, and added at the end. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53209379470/in/dateposted-public/" title="Eggplant & Sausage Jambalaya"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53209379470_98a5471286_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Eggplant & Sausage Jambalaya"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Cheesy Broccoli-Rice Casserole</u>: This lovely recipe combines mushrooms soup and cheesy sauce (both recipes are also in the book) for a great creamy outcome. You do need to have cooked brown rice for this recipe, so plan ahead. I decreased the amount of brown rice from two cups to one and a half cups because I was using some leftovers and that is what I had.<br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53207992727/in/dateposted-public/" title="Cheesy Broccoli-Rice Casserole"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53207992727_05b2f3bced_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Cheesy Broccoli-Rice Casserole"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Creamy Tofu Chicken Pasta Bake</u>: There is a great recipe for tofu chicken in the book, which is part of this recipe, though I did find the flavour of the tofu chicken got lost a bit once it was all baked. This also uses the mushroom soup recipe as a base, mixed with some diced tomatoes. It is topped with just nutritional yeast, which is great because I love it. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>

This orange & ginger jam from St Dalfour was like a fancy marmalade, very nice. Enjoyed with peanut butter on toast, and in overnight oats. <br /><br>

In my efforts to find a non-stevia kombucha, I tried this Jiva watermelon and mint. Sounds lovely and refreshing, right? But somehow tastes awful. Thankfully their other flavours are much better. <br /><br>

Tried this new vegan schitzel that I found in the frozen aisle. The schnitzels themselves are huge! But it was pretty good. Served with mashed potatoes, steamed frozen green beans, and gravy. <br /><br>

Forgive this awful photo. But there is a fairly new little Japanese grocery store at one of my local shops, and they sell vegan hojicha ice cream! Also black sesame and matcha flavours, but the hojocha is the best! It costs almost AU$18 for a 2L tub, so it is definitely on the pricier side, but I have paid almost that amount for a quarter of the amount of So Delicious ice cream back in the day, so everything is relative. <br /><br>

Veganaise is over. It not longer gets shipped to Australia, and I am bereft. It is really hard to find a decent mayo here, most of them tend towards being too sweet and too vinegary. Hellman's vegan mayo is now availabe in supermarkets, and it is the closest to Veganaise I have found. <br /><br>

Finishing off with some more St Daulfour jam, this time the mango and passionfruit. I loved the tropical flavour this had, though I always struggle texturally with gritty passionfruit seeds. I mostly used this is overnight oats. <br /><br>

Boo had a rough day yesterday. I'd noticed that one of her back claws was sticking out funny, and she was licking it, and it smelled funky. Of course she wouldn't let me touch it. So she had to come to work with me, stay in hospital for the day being furious, and then got sedated. Turns out she had just broken her claw and it had gotten infected, so it is all cleaned up and she had antibiotics. But she was so miffed by the whole experience. I'm sorry Boo that my attempts to keep you healthy are met with such disdain! Forgive me. <br /><br><br /><br>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05085387707813881571noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5059290008841439653.post-11810476080438911342023-09-17T10:16:00.003+10:002023-09-17T10:17:16.855+10:00Recipe Round-Up: Cookin' CrunkMy how time flies. It has been almost four weeks between posts? Not intentional, but just things happening. Nothing of note happened, just, you know, things. But let's get back to some recipe round-ups! It has been ages since I have done one, and we are ready to move on to a new cookbook. This series of round-ups will be coming from Cookin' Crunk, written by Bianca Phillips of <a href="http://vegancrunk.blogspot.com/" target="blank">Vegan Crunk</a> blog fame! See other posts about this book <a href="http://kittensgonelentil.blogspot.com/search/label/cookin%27%20crunk" tarbget="blank">here</a><br /><br>
<u>Tangy Tempeh Chops</u> with <u>Mashed Sweet Taters</u>: The tempeh chops recipe was meant to have green peppers in it, but no way, I used some extra celery. I made half the recipe and got one very satisfying serving. The sauce has a bunch of things in it, including ketchup! The mashed sweet taters looked suspiciously too sweet when I read the recipe... maple syrup and nutmeg? But actually they were not too sweet, and had a lovely flavour that was the perfect companion for the tangy tempeh. I made a quarter of a recipe for one serve. All served over some baby spinach. <br />
Rating: Tempeh :), Sweet Potato :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53191775507/in/dateposted-public/" title="Tangy Tempeh Chops; Mashed Sweet Taters"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53191775507_fa5a3cc535_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Tangy Tempeh Chops; Mashed Sweet Taters"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Creamy Tahini Sauce</u>: This was absolutely delicious! I did switch it up a little by just using a few drops of sesame oil and using water for the rest of the tablespoon it called for, but I find a tiny bit of sesamy oil goes a long way. This is used in one of the recipes in the book, but I served it over some brown rice, roasted broccoli, and sauteed tofu for an old-school vegan bowl.<br />
Rating: :D<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53191775522/in/dateposted-public/" title="Creamy Tahini Sauce"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53191775522_bfe5e240b4_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Creamy Tahini Sauce"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Sweet 'n' Savoury Marinated Tofu</u>: This is a variation given in the book for the sweet 'n' spicy tofu, but no spicy here. This variation switches out the sriracha for ginger. And it is sooooo good! I scaled the recipe down a bit as my block of tofu was only 300g rather than 450g, but I wish I had the bigger block because this tofu is incredible! I did use some of it in sandwiches, but I also used some of it just for eating straight up.<br />
Rating: :D<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53192035884/in/dateposted-public/" title="Sweet 'n' Savoury Marinated Tofu"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53192035884_f186867c34_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Sweet 'n' Savoury Marinated Tofu"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Tofu Cottage Cheese</u>: This recipe is very simple to make, but then has a bunch of different uses. Bianca recommends spreading it on toast with Marmite, so I put it on toast with Vegemite. Vegemite is Marmite's superior Australian equivalent. So salty, so good. I also added some fresh tomato slices. This was excellent for breakfast or for lunch. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53191775372/in/dateposted-public/" title="Tofu Cottage Cheese"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53191775372_e7e4162e09_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Tofu Cottage Cheese"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Cheese Tofu Scramble</u>: I am a simple woman, and at the end of the day I love a tofu scramble over any vegan-egg based scramble. Tofu is my truest food love. This is a great savory flavoured cheese scramble. I used celery, mushrooms, and spinach as the vegetables. I browned the tofu first, before adding in the flavouring mixture. A lovely version of a classic. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53192232581/in/dateposted-public/" title="Cheesy Tofu Scramble"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53192232581_e858dd3e70_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Cheesy Tofu Scramble"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Tofu Scramble Enchiladas</u>: I switched this up a bit to suit my own tastes, replacing the chili powder with paprika, leaving out the salsa, and using wheat tortillas rather than corn tortillas. What we got was a lovely casserole of saucy, cheesy, tofu filled enchiladas that was just as good for dinner as they would have been for breakfast. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53192232586/in/dateposted-public/" title="Tofu Scramble Enchiladas"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53192232586_3ebd1c2d49_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Tofu Scramble Enchiladas"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Dill Weed Potato Salad</u>: A fun twist on a potato salad, this has pimento olives in it! I have never had a potato salad with olives in it before, but it definitely works. I left out the raw onion and the jalapeno. I used dried dill for this, as the recipe called for, but if I had fresh dill I would definitely have used that instead. <br />

The 7th of September was Mirabelle's one year adoptiversary!<br /><br><br /><br>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05085387707813881571noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5059290008841439653.post-55733259598247758892023-08-23T17:14:00.002+10:002023-08-23T17:15:37.862+10:00Midweek MunchiesI realised after discussing it in comments on my last post, I never mentioned on the actual blog the actual great news that I do not have to do an oral defense for my PhD! You have no idea what a giant relief that is. When I started my PhD (officially in 2014, when I upgraded from a Masters that I started in 2009... I kid you not when I see this was the slowest PhD ever!) an oral defence was not required, but then in 2017 it changed that publication based theses had to do one. The post grad liaison at the time told me that I had to do one... but she was so wrong. Shout out the the person at the graduate school who contacted me to check if I actually meant to tick the 'oral examination required' box, as because I started in 2014 I still get to submit according to those rules. I absolutely do not want to do an oral examination! Thank you graduate school person who saved me from so much stress. Now I just have to wait for examiners to read it and do any revisions until they are happy and then... PhD!<br /><br>
That was a long ramble. And I know you are actually here for snacks. Well, OK, some of you are here for cats, and the snacks are just a bonus. Time for some munchies.<br /><br>
The frustrating quest for stevia-free kombucha and water kefir continues. I found these Buchi cans in funny flavours, and may I say they were both very good. Of course, they are super hard to find unless I want to buy and entire case of them online, and who has the fridge room for that? But next time I see them in the wild I will definitely pick up some more. Of course, I have forgotten where I bought them the first time. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53136406178/in/dateposted-public/" title="Buchi Cans"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53136406178_9fa2df2a99_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Buchi Cans"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I bought this GF Hemp Rigatoni to use when my brother was here the last time, but we didn't end up using it then. So I made it a while ago to use it up, and it is awful. It absolutely just fell apart and turned into pasta fragments in the gummiest of ways. The sauce I put on it barely saved it. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53135932151/in/dateposted-public/" title="Terrible pasta"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53135932151_3b7c256972_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Terrible pasta"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Chocolate bar the first. This was like eating a very rich Vego-style bar. Was it good? I honestly can't remember. So I can only imagine that it was fine. I remember when things are incredible, and when things are bad. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53135932161/in/dateposted-public/" title="Snack Bar"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53135932161_80affe4d2c_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Snack Bar"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Chocolate bar the second. This was not good, and mostly tasted like chalky protein poweder. I had also bought one of their hazelnut flavoured ones, which suffered from the same issue. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53135335452/in/dateposted-public/" title="Snack Bar"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53135335452_e30c14754d_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Snack Bar"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center>
I really like this Woolworths Summer Fruit Blend. It has strawberries, grapes, mango, and pineapple. I originally bought it thinking I would make some great summer smoothies with it, then just never felt like a smoothie. I ended up just defrosting it in portions to add to yoghurt and granola. But one day, I shall smoothie it. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53135932016/in/dateposted-public/" title="Summer Fruit Blend"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53135932016_34ea15c6ec_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Summer Fruit Blend"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Tasti makes my favourite fruity snack balls. Here are two flavours I tried recently - the apple and the blackberry. The blackberry one had a very very strong blackberry flavour. The apple one is sweet and mild. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53136338430/in/dateposted-public/" title="Fruit Balls"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53136338430_ac1de9f012_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Fruit Balls"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I don't remember where I got these mushroom snacks, possibly a supermarket, possibly The Green Edge, but they were good. They have a mix of mushrooms in them.<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53136135519/in/dateposted-public/" title="Shiitake Snacks"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53136135519_f2926b56c7_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Shiitake Snacks"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Finally, some vegan gummies a friend sent me. These had three flavours - apple, blackberry, and orange. The apple was my absolute favourite, but the orange had a funny aftertaste to it. The blackberry was nice. I would love to get just a whole bag of the apple ones!<br /><br>

BIG YAWN from Eloise.<br /><br><br /><br>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05085387707813881571noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5059290008841439653.post-15233125760416100002023-08-20T13:05:00.005+10:002023-08-20T13:06:39.181+10:00Eating Out: Brisbane Vegan Twilight Markets July 2023Hello everyone, how are you? What have you been up to? I have suddenly become deeply into women's soccer in the last week, thanks to the Matildas being incredible in the FIFA World Cup, which was held in Australia this year. I caught their match against France, and it was so intense. And even though they didn't win their next two games, they still made it to fourth place in the world, and incredible achievement! Anyway, I'm a sports gay now, or something. Yay Matildas!<br /><br>
This post is about another visit to the markets! This was my most recent one, I didn't go this month because work got in the way. The July one was very special, because my brother was visiting from Spain! And we went together. Sadly, he had made the cardinal mistake of having a late lunch, which is not what you do when you are going to go to the markets! But some good food was still had. <br /><br>
This market was the week after Taylor Swift tickets went on sale (and swiftly - heh - sold out) in Australia, and a few days after the release of Speak Now (Taylor's Version), so Pippa's Pantry went all out with a Taylor Swift theme! Pippa's Pantry is a cupcake stall where I often buy something for my mum, as I am not a cupcake person. But I couldn't resist getting a Lavender and Earl Grey Haze cupcake: an earl grey cupcake filled with earl grey custard and topped with sparkling lavender icing. And it was really good, miraculously the icing was not super sweet. I also got a Chocolate Goes All Too Well With Caramel Cupcake for my mum, complete with a little red fondant scarf. All the cupcakes had fun names based on Taylor songs, and were decorated beautifully. <br /><br>

I also couldn't resist a 'We Hate Jake' sugar cookie, because it made me laugh. <br /><br>

Cupcakes bought (there was a super long line, so we went there first), next stop was some savouries from Vegetabelle, where we got their new special - potato rosti with smoky beans and cheesy sauce. It was a chilly night, and this was perfect colder weather comfort food. Vegetabelle always hits it out of the park.<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53128639329/in/dateposted-public/" title="Rosti with Smokey Beans and Cheese Sauce from Vegetabelle at Brisbane Vegan Twilight Markets"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53128639329_b48ab10060_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Rosti with Smokey Beans and Cheese Sauce from Vegetabelle at Brisbane Vegan Twilight Markets"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
We also go the Potato Crispy Tacos from Holy Taco, which were three crispy rolled tacos filled with mashed potato and topped with assorted things like guac, salsa, and sour cream. Very good. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53127835707/in/dateposted-public/" title="Potato Crispy Tacos from Holy Taco at Brisbane Vegan Twilight Markets"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53127835707_fe088e2133_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Potato Crispy Tacos from Holy Taco at Brisbane Vegan Twilight Markets"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
Not pictured, we got some steamed BBQ buns from Oh Mien. And then we were going to finish up by sharing a toasted sandwich from Miso Toasty, but they had just had a huge order and it was going to be a 30 minute wait, so we decided to skip that and head on home. Not before stopping by Vegetabelle again though to pick up my favourite market treats - Lemon Meringue Tart, Apple Crumble Cheesecake, and Rosewater Raspberry Blondie.<br /><br>

Tonight I guess I am staying up to watch the finals of the FIFA Womens World Cup between Spain and England. I am going for Spain, not because England beat Australia but because my brother lives in Spain as his partner and her family are Spanish. Have you discovered something new and unexpected that brings you joy recently? <br /><br>

I went to say goodnight to Eloise the other night and found her sleeping here... on top of one of my bookshelves. I guess she thought she was a nice addition to the display, which she was. Let's be real, she's be best centerpiece I could think of. <br /><br><br /><br>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05085387707813881571noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5059290008841439653.post-20441072408009908612023-08-13T11:45:00.003+10:002023-08-13T11:45:38.017+10:00Recipe Round-Up: Cook The PantryIn a sudden burst of blogging energy, I'm finishing my round-up of things I have made from Cook The Pantry by Robin Robertson today. Find other posts about this book <a href="http://kittensgonelentil.blogspot.com/search/label/cook%20the%20pantry" target="blank">here</a>.<br /><br>
<u>Kitchen-Sink Capellini</u>: Angelhair pasta is not something I eat often, but every time I eat it I just love it! This is a very fast recipe with tinned and sundried tomatoes, artichokes, olives, spinach, and olives. I also added some green peas or extra. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53112168956/in/dateposted-public/" title="Kitchen-Sink Capellini"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53112168956_53ec526230_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Kitchen-Sink Capellini"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Artichoke-Cannelini Linguine</u>: This kind of gives me picatta vibes, with capers and white wine and butter and lemon juice. It is easy to make, though I got three serves rather than four. The recipe has forgotten to say when to add the lemon juice, so I added it in the last minute of cooking.<br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53111587862/in/dateposted-public/" title="Artichoke-Cannelini Linguine"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53111587862_046994c845_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Artichoke-Cannelini Linguine"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Rotini with Creamy Pumpkin Sauce and Walnuts</u>: I used a hard-to get tin of pumpkin for this recipe. The pumpkin sauce initially is very liquidy, but it thickens when the pasta is added. I also added some white beans and peas, and I used toasted almonds instead of walnuts.<br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53111587802/in/dateposted-public/" title="Rotini with Creamy Pumpkin Sauce and Pecans"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53111587802_91268c0174_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Rotini with Creamy Pumpkin Sauce and Pecans"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Pasta Marinara</u>: This is very quick to make, and relies mostly on crushed tomatoes with some red wine and seasonings, but I found the sauce was a bit bland and needed some adjustments. As well as the pasta, I added some kidney beans and peas.<br />
Rating: :|<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53112583945/in/dateposted-public/" title="Pasta Marinara"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53112583945_431fcd1f27_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Pasta Marinara"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Manchurian Black Bean Noodles</u>: This recipe calls for black bean linguine, which I didn't have but I did have some black bean spaghetti. I don't remember the brand, but this was actually a nice bean-based pasta. The Manchurian-style sauce was nice, though I did find it got sucked unto the pasta pretty quickly, so I'd double it next time. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53112672633/in/dateposted-public/" title="Manchurian Black Bean Noodles"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53112672633_60ddfffc20_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Manchurian Black Bean Noodles"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Noodles with Spicy Peanut Sauce</u>: You know I made this into Noodles with Peanut Sauce, no spicy. The peanut sauce was still lovely without the spice, and was freat on the noodles along with broccoli, peas, and tofu. Once again though, it ended up a bit dry because the noodles sucked up all the sauce. Double to sauce. I like things saucy.<br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53112583895/in/dateposted-public/" title="Noodles with Peanut Sauce"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53112583895_19b4c9894f_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Noodles with Peanut Sauce"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Spaghetti Lo-Mein</u>: This is turning into a pasta post! Once again I wanted more sauce for this, but the flavour was good. I used Japanese marinated tofu instead of soy curls, and peas instead of capsicum.<br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53112375444/in/dateposted-public/" title="Spaghetti Lo-Mein"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53112375444_7bc2a11f73_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Spaghetti Lo-Mein"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
<u>Stovetop Peach-Blueberry Crumble</u>: Finishing the post off with a couple of desserts. I made a half-recipe of this, which was really easy to make. I used frozen peaches and blueberries, but ended up needing to make it a blueberry peach-crumble because although my bag of frozen peaches said it had 300g in it, it ended up being about 100g, so I switched quantities. I cooked this on a stove in a mini-frying pan, and it was a quick and fun Sunday afternoon project. <br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53112168911/in/dateposted-public/" title="Stovetop Peach-Blueberry Crumble"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53112168911_07f336db64_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Stovetop Peach-Blueberry Crumble"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center> <br /><br>
<u>Fudgy Brownie Mug</u>: As you can see, I actually made it in a little bowl. This is a microwave recipe, and I don't know how to take good photos of microwave cake mugs. This was very quick and tasted good, though my microwave is high powered so I think I over cooked it a little.<br />
Rating: :) <br /><br>

I think I have caught up to things from this year at least!<br /><br>
I needed croutons for a salad I was making and I didn't want to make my own, so I was able to get these in our weekly Coles delivery. They are absolutely delicious! Great on salads, great even just for snacking on. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53106181220/in/dateposted-public/" title="Vegan Croutons"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53106181220_df5b58ca35_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Vegan Croutons"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I have been on a little bit of a vegan lolly kick over the last several months. I don't remember where I got these from (I suspect some sort of online order) and I don't really remember what I thought of them. But this is a brand of vegan gummy lollies. <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53105200377/in/dateposted-public/" title="Vegan Lollies"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53105200377_0fff0da5b8_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Vegan Lollies"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
The final I Should Souvlaki protein I got was the BBQ chicken-style, so this is another souvlaki made with that. <br /><br>

These pastrami slices are the same brand as some of the ham and the salami I shared in a recent Midweek Munchies post. The pastrami is my favourite. It is still a bit dry, but I really like the flavour. <br /><br>

Some fun vegan wafer rolls I found kicking around in my pantry. There is something just so fun about eating these.<br /><br>

A while ago I bought a heap of different flavours of St Dalfour jams, but I wasn't using them because I don't tend to eat jam on bread. Then I decided to use them in my overnight oats. This pineapple and mango one was delicious, it has a lovely sweet tropical flavour.<br /><br>

Finally, Vegie Delights brought out these chicken-style sausages. They fall firmly into the camp of very obviously not a meaty-sausage, but I generally prefer that. They had a pretty mild flavour, but I enjoyed them.<br /><br>

Last night while I was reading I had both Eloise and Mirabelle snuggling up to me. That is my leg between them. Living the dream. <br /><br><br /><br>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05085387707813881571noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5059290008841439653.post-11482404186711190882023-08-06T12:00:00.002+10:002023-08-06T12:00:56.263+10:00Eating Out: Brisbane Vegan Twilight Markets (June 2023)Hello, it is Sunday. I spent the last few days miserable with a stomach bug, but it seems to be slowly improving now. I hope you have all be well. When I am in a normal blogging rhythm, I would do a recipe round-up on a Sunday, but I just didn't feel like it, so I am doing another vegan markets instead. That may not seem like a big deal, but when your brain makes up arbitrary but very rigid rules for life, being able to alter them to what I feel like doing withouth my brain spiraling is pretty major. Hurrah for tiny steps. Anyway, you are not here for brain talk, you are here for food! <br /><br>
Let's jump back in to some of the twilight vegan markets, this time for June. It is nice in winter months because they sun is pretty much gone, though it is nippy! But you get lovely early sunsets.<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53096749083/in/dateposted-public/" title="Sunset at Brisbane Vegan Twilight Markets"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53096749083_f57c339335_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Sunset at Brisbane Vegan Twilight Markets"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
I went with my mum, and we shared a bunch of things. First up we split another okinomiyaki from :D Select, this time topped with eggplant, tonkatsu sauce, and miso mustard. So good, but again so filling, so it was nice to share this.<br /><br>

We also stopped by Oh Mien and got some BBQ buns and some Fried Chicken with Plum Sauce. The fried chicken was cauliflower, and was really nice. As someone who can only eat a little bit of fried food before feeling sick, it was again lovely to have something to share with! <br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53096258841/in/dateposted-public/" title="Fried Chicken with Plum Sauce and BBQ Buns from Oh Mien at Brisbane Vegan Twilight Markets"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53096258841_e238033cde_n.jpg" width="240" height="320" alt="Fried Chicken with Plum Sauce and BBQ Buns from Oh Mien at Brisbane Vegan Twilight Markets"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
We finished up with the Duck Tacos from Holy Taco, which were excellent. These has BBQ duck, cucumber, carrot, coriander, salsa, and tomatillo sauce. These were such a great combination of flavours, I do recommend.<br /><br>

My mum got some pretty cupcakes from Pippa's Pantry to take home.<br /><br>
<center><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dimsimkitty/53096437099/in/dateposted-public/" title="Cupcakes from Pippa's Pantry at Brisbane Vegan Twilight Markets"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53096437099_523bd06fb0_n.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Cupcakes from Pippa's Pantry at Brisbane Vegan Twilight Markets"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></center><br /><br>
And I got some sweets from Vegetabelle. I was just getting some of my favourite lemon meringue tarts and some smores cookies, but then I saw they had apple crumble cheesecake (which I verified did not have any coconut oil or coconut cream in it) and raspberry rosewater blondies, so I had to get one of each. Everything was incredible, as it always is from Vegetabelle. That make gluten free food taste not gluten free.<br /><br>

Hope you are all hanging in there.<br /><br>

Today is Eloise's one year adoptiversary! One year of the sweetest biggest tenderhearted tiny baby, one year of the bunniest of butts, one year of legs everywhere. I hope the universe is kind and gives us many more years together. <br /><br><br /><br>
