Eloise

Food blogging will resume soon, but I know you want to know more about Eloise!

You may have noticed based on this photo from the last post, Eloise has a little stumpy tail!

Eloise

She was born like that! Some people call all cats with a short tail a manx, but a Manx is a breed, she is a Domestic Short Hair with a stumpy tail! She was adopted from Best Friends Felines, which is the same rescue that Abby and Boo came from.

Eloise

She was rescued from a house where two cats where were not desexed rapidly turned into many cats. Thankfully, Best Friends Felines stepped in and took the many offspring (of all different ages, some were pregnant themselves!) and desexed the original duo for the humans. She came into care in April and quickly established herself as a little sweetie pie who loved to cuddle in bed and be on your lap. She also has L-O-N-G legs.

She is also completely ridiculous!

She has settled in really well, even with Boo. Though she is very busy exploring and playing in her new house, so she hasn't had quite as much time for snuggling. You know how it is when you are a busy cat. She is younger than I was expecting to adopt, being only 10 months old when I adopted her. But she will be turning one at the end of this month. But she has been an absolute delightful addition to our home and my heart.

Boo!

Hello, please give a blog welcome to Boo!

Boo

We adopted Boo about two months ago, and she is four and a half years old. Boo's profile said she was a calm kitty who loved sleeping in laps, which sounded perfect as feline friend for my mum. She has been in foster care for about two an a half years, after her original person passed away. Poor Boo, she's been looking for her forever home since.

Once she arrived into our home, she decided that in fact she is a very active play driven easily bored kitty! She loves to play with interactive toys!! She will run and jump and leap after them, and we need to keep her entertained. Her previously demure attitude to life was a cunning ploy to get into a home where she could stretch her rather long legs our and be extremely silly.

Boo

Boo and Abby are not getting along so great. I actually had a behaviourist out a couple of weeks ago to help stop them from fighting, which was really good. Abby pretty much still stays upstairs and is shy except with me (though she is better with my dad and also working on getting her used to my mum). Boo is mostly downstairs, but is such a curious kitty she loves coming up to have a peek at Abby.

Boo

While we are still all finding out feet together, Boo has become a beloved member of the family. So I hope you will look forward to seeing her pop up on the blog in the future.

Eating Out*: The Cat Cuddle Cafe

*Pre-COVID

I have been a bit quiet on here the last week. With everything going on, I have spent a lot of time reading and educating myself on Black and Indigenous issues. We had massive protests here in Australia on the weekend, and while I am unable to attent protests, I was so proud of all the people who turned out. Australia has a history of Indigenous deaths in custody, and no police officer here has ever been charged. Those Australians shaking their heads and saying this is an American issue need to understand that Black Lives Matter is just as relevant here as there. I have also been donating to a number of Indigenous organisations, as well as planning on donating to some US bail funds as well (the dollar is not great right now, so it doesn't go too far overseas). I also went back to work this week for the first time in two months. I just worked Monday and Tuesday morning this week, easing my way back in. It was surprisingly OK, and already the last two months of being at home seem like a dream.

Brisbane's original cat cafe, The Cat Cuddle Cafe, has been operating for several years. Unlike the other cat cafe here, this is one I am happy to support as they use the cafe as a means to rehome cats, as well as using the profits to go straight back into recue cats. They have rehomed hundreds of kittens and cats since they opened, plus they have hosted a number of fun fundraising activities (like yoga with cats, crafting with cats, boardgames with cats) as well running an op-shop and market stall to raise more money. They also have a vegetarian cafe with vegan options, so what a great place! Last year, they moved from their smaller original premises (just up the road from my work) to a larger premesis a bit further away. I finally got a chance to stop in for lunch earlier this year.

I get so excited when places use soy icecream instead of coconut ice cream, because I love milkshakes! And I had a very lovely strawberry soy milkshake. Check out how cute the little cat on my table was! As well as having super cute cat decor, they also have an incredible selection of cat themed clothes, jewelry, and knick knacks.

It is a small cafe, and their vegan selection at the time included a lasagne, some pies, and some toasties. I went for the lasagne, which is made by a local company and was delicious.

I also grabbed a treat to take away, a sweet potato brownie. The icing was too rich and too sweet for me (but my workmate ate it!), but the brownie itself was lovely!

The Cat Cuddle Cafe was closed to the public during COVID. As we slowly start to ease restrictions, they have opened up their op shop and the cafe for takeaway, and looks like they have plans to open up the cat rooms again (with very limited numbers of humans) this weekend!

Although I hadn't booked in to see the kitties, I was just stopping by for lunch, knowing the owner of the cafe through work had the perk of being able to pop down to see the kitties! They have such a lovely set up for them down there, and I met some lovely furry friends. When things are safe, I definitely want to go back and hang out with them again!

Cats

No food today. Just cats.

Yesterday, the 16th of February, was Dim Sim's 19th birthday. She spent the days as she always does, snoozing in her chair cave while having food brought to her. And then we snuggled all night. I hope I have many more years to spend with her.

Today is the two year anniversary of Sahara's passing. How has it already been two years? I don't know. I miss her so much. She was such a bright, enthusiastic, energetic little bear, how is she not still here being her?

And speaking of missing people so much, here is a photo of Gizmo as well. I miss her calm, sweet, love.
