VeganMoFo 2019 #2: Kitties In My Kitchen

Friday 2nd: Kitchen tour – Show us where the magic happens!

I've done a number of kitchen tours for previous MoFos, which you can see here, and honestly my kitchen hasn't really changed. But I thought for this year I'd show a few of the cute kitty things that I have in my kitchen. When I pulled these out, I realised that tragically I hardly ever use them. A shame, because they are very cute.

Firstly, this adorable tea set I bought from a Japanese-inspired shop near work. The tea pot has a strainer built in, and it is just the right size for a lovely mug of tea.

I bought all of these cute little bowls home from my trip to Japan in 2012. I just realised as I was doing this post that the kitty graphic on the pink bowls is the same as on the tea set above! Even more matchy, I love it!

This set of mugs is very much my style. Pink, black, cats. Unfortunately I have never used them, because most of our mugs are hung up on a mug tree and these are a bit of a strange shape for that. But one day!

My collection of kitty chopsticks. My favourite ones to use are the pink glitter Hello Kitty ones, of course. Both the Hello Kitty ones came from my Japan trip as well.

Finally, an assortment of cat mugs. I'm afraid I have lost many good mug friends over the years, I can be klutzy and mug + caesar stone benchtop can only really end one way. I used to use the one on the left hand side all the time, but more recently I have been using the Christmas one since I broke my favourite 'Check Meowt' mug from Typo. Sigh.

Sahara the Contortionist Kitty

My sweet girl Sahara had a basket that she just loved. She had many beds, but it was her favourite. This photo was taken not long after I got her, and she was sleeping in her basket in the most amusing way. That does not look comfortable!

VeganMoFo 2017 #11: Kitchen Tour

11th: Kitchen tour!

I did a kitchen tour prompt for VeganMoFo two years ago, and it hasn't really changed that much. In fact, I also did a kitchen tour back in 2008, when my kitchen was a brand new baby. Mostly, over time, I see that the benches have become more and more cluttered!

Here is the most exciting corner of my kitchen, which has had some excellent upgrades in the last two years. Of course, the double oven remains, as does my beloved pink Kitchenaid mixer. Back in 2015, I was sad about my crappy blender. No more! I now have an amazing Froothie Optimum high powered blender, that makes all my smoothie and cashew cream dreams come true. And next to it there now lives a glorious Breville Whiz Pro food processor, which is so good. Oh, happy happy kitchen bench indeed!

The next two kitchen sections are pretty much the same as before. The sink, next to the toaster oven, next to the small appliance cupboard (which has had a toaster and kettle upgrade, but nothing much else), and then the induction stove (meh) and the servery (which is a lot more cluttered now). The drawers are still pretty much the same as well on the inside.

The dining room is kind of the same as well, still with the chest freezer and pantry. Though there has been some rearrangement of the shelves. I keep a lot of appliances in the bottom half of the pantry cupboard. There have been a few changes. Clockwise from top left there is the iron, mini food processor, spice grinder, large slow cooker, medium slow cooker, rice cooker, Belgian waffle maker, food processor bits, weird tupperware containers my mum bought, a thermos, pizza stone, silly flower waffle maker, sandwich press, jaffle maker, and a George Foreman grill. I also have a bread maker, crepe maker, and ice cream machine that don't fit in the kitchen. Seriously, I love appliances.

I have also added this super cute veggie print I got from Lydia Beamish.

Finally, my cookbooks. I still have the tall bookcase in the dining room full of cookbooks (except for the very bottom shelf which is Mum's), but I have also taken over half a shelf in the lounge room. You can see there are some spaces, they are from books I have taken out for MoFo planning. It is actually all pretty full and I will need some more space soon for any future books.

Sahara taste testing

Sahara was an extremely helpful kitty in the kitchen. From supervising to taste testing, she took her responsibilities very seriously.

VeganMoFo: A Few Of My Favourite Things...

Tonight I am going to see a local production of 'The Sound Of Music' with a very good friend. Hurrah - I can't wait! I love 'The Sound Of Music'. And while whiskers on kittens, well... kittens in general, are my favouritest thing in the world, I thought I might finally get around to sharing a few of my favourite things to use in the kitchen! Oh yeah, pink is my favourite colour! ;)

My beautiful retro marshmallow pink scales. These are so pretty and very accurate. I got these along with some (not pictured) marshmallow pink colanders. Also very pretty. But my scales are invaluable to me when it comes to weighing ingredients.

Oh look, more pink! This mixing bowl was given too my for Christmas by my brother's girlfriend. She also gave me a pink silicon spatula and some pink cookie cutters. This is my favourite bowl for mixing things in. Earlier this year I tragically droped it onto the tiles and chipped off a teeny bit of the base, but it battles on.

OK, this actually belongs to my mum. But in the kitchen, all is mine! Mwahahaha. This mortar and pestle is amazing. It is super heavy, and just makes such easy work of smooshing whatever you wish. Much better than the little lightweight one I had in Sydney. I must smuggle this out with me when I finally move out.

This is my 5L stock pot. My dad bought it for me from Ikea (in their 365+ range), and surprisingly it was fantastic. I use this so much I can't imagine how I existed without it. It has a lovely heavy base, cool touch handles and is just lovely to use. I recently purchased it's big 10L sister so I can make even bigger soups and stocks.

More marshmallow pink! I haven't actually used this yet, I just bought it last week. But I already love it for all that it is. I have been looking for a grill pan I can use on an induction stove but that won't break the bank for ages without luck. Then I happened to be strolling through Myer last weekend when I came across this gorgeous Breville cast iron (hurrah - also my first cast iron purchase) pink grill pan at 50% off the marked price! I call that fate! I can't wait to start using it.

Le Creuset. Need I say more? This is also one of those what belongs to my mother really belongs to me as the kitchen is my domain things. She has had this pot since my Dad and her got married, 30 years ago. At it keeps on going. It is awesome and heavy and goes from stove to oven and I am in love with it.

And my chef/saute pan. I think it is about 30cm diameter and has nice high sides. It is quite big, and great for so many things. Another bargain I got for 40% off the retail price. Hurrah!

There are so many other things in my kitchen that I love and adore. And I haven't even considered any of the appliances or the crockery yet! But I am a sucker for all things kitchen. I love wandering through kitchen shops and section. Anyone reading this, please let me know your own favourite kitchen items!

VeganMoFo - A kitchen is a temple

Welcome to VeganMoFo! A wonderful month of blogging as much as possible about food. Spearheaded by the wonderful Isa from The Post Punk Kitchen. This was meant to start on the 1st of October, but I have been sabotaged by work on the 1st and internet not working on the 2nd, so I will just have to make extra posts to make up for it!

I thought I might start the VeganMoFo by showing off my shiny new kitchen. And by mine, I mean my parent's shiny new kitchen. At the end of last year the kitchen in the family home, where I now once again reside, was redone. The old kitchen had served us well for 26 years, but definitely time for a change! So the new kitchen was designed, with a lot of input from me I confess! Soft closing drawers, caesar stone benches (so much fun for rolling out pastry!), induction stove (which despite initial misgivings on my part is quite nifty) and, my pride and joy, a snexy double oven! Indeed! I can cook dinner and dessert, sweet and savoury baked goods, things that need to be cooked at the same time at different temperatures.... all done in glorious tandem!

So, without further ado my friends, here are some photos of this glorious new abode for all my kitchen needs.

My baby, pride and joy - the double oven.

One side of the kitchen - sink and dishwasher are fairly ho hum and standard.

Servery - very handy for cooking but still talking to people in the dining room. Plus having the raised back means extra space for having things on the bench without falling off!

And finally, the end wall of the kitchen. Complete with induction stove and appliance cabinent.

Tomorrow, I'll be showing off my favouritest cooking wares!

And here's today's obligatory food porn - this is German Apple Cake from the Joy Of Vegan Baking. It looks very pretty!
