Eating Out: Kwan Yin Home Delivery

So this is technically eating in, not out. When Kuan Yin closed their restaurant in the Valley, Brisbane vegans sobbed. However all was not lost, as they opened a home delivery service with a reduced menu, but many of the old favourites. I've ordered a few times (particularly on weekends they need lots of advance notice), and here is what we have ordered.

I have always ordered the same thing (as I did when I would go to the actual restaurant). I love their Sweet and Sour Bento Box (which says a lot, because I generally don't like sweet and sour), and their Pan-Fried Dumplings. Unfortunately they do not offer taro soy milk bubble tea in their home delivery (farewell cookie drink), but I did once get this sweet pink drink.

Mmmm.... dumplings! And a vegan takoyaki. I don't recommend the takoyaki, which was like a rubbery faux seafood ball. Unless you like that sort of thing. I don't like faux seafood, so I am obviously coming from a certain angle.

My Dad ordered the Spicy Udon Noodles one time. I didn't try any, as true to their name they were very spicy.

Another order, another sweet and sour bento box. But you often get different side components each time, which is fun.

More delicious dumplings, and some crunchy, salty Taiwanese Fried Chicken.

Dad kept up with the noodle theme, with the Stir-Fried Noodles with Soy Sauce.

And Mum tried the Three Mushrooms Bento Box.

And this one, time, I ordered a Sweet and Sour Bento Box!

The only downside of the home delivery is that by the time the food gets to me, it is generally more lukewarm rather than hot. But it is a handy option to have. They are not 100% vegan, but many things are marked vegan on the menu (some of the things that don't say vegan are still vegan, double check when you order). And, if you still really want an original Kuan Yin experience (complete with cookie drink), you can go and visit their restaurant down on the Gold Coast as well.

Dim Sim spends quite a lot of time on my lap now that it is always free for her to use.

  1. Yum, it all looks delicious, especially the dumplings! I miss dumplings so much. All the good things are gluten full!
I'm glad Dim Sim is living the life!

    1. Dim Sim certainly is pretty content with her life right now.
There is a yum cha place near me that has plenty of GF dumpling offerings. If only we weren't so far away!

  2. Those dumplings look so yummy! It is so hard to find good dumplings here. I guess Americans like their doughy dumplings.

    1. We have so many vegan Asian places around me, there are many dumplings on offer!
I don't mind the thicker, doughier style dumpling sometimes, but they are very filling. These nice light dumplings allow for much more eating!

  3. Oh yea, I'm not a fan of that weird faux meat seafood stuff in Asian meals. I love faux meats, just not the seafood ones. Except fried vegan shrimp in po'boys. I can get down with that. Love the bento box idea!!

    1. Bento boxes are so much fun!
That weird seafood extender tasting rubbery faux seafood is one of the few things that I will actually spit out if I accidentally put it in my mouth. Ick.

  4. Oh I wish I had a place like this for home delivery. Our delivery options are pizza :/
The bento boxes are so cute! The dumplings look good. I really love dumplings and they don't seem to have them as offerings at many places here.
I would love to try the mushroom dish =)

    1. There is a place that delivers pizza with vegan cheese, and some others that deliver pizza with no cheese, but they aren't great. There aren't really any other vegan delivery options to my area, so glad that Kuan Yin is there when I need it!
