VeganMoFo 2015 #21: Stranded.

21. What three endless food supplies would you take if you were going to be stranded on an island? (Imagine your nutritional needs have been met, these are a bonus!)

I really hope I am never stranded on an island, or if I am that it has a lot of shade, because this complexion does not handle the beach or even the sun at all. I also hope that this island has clothes and shelter, because quite frankly I am not that much of a handy type. In fact, I am pretty sure if I ever was stranded on an island I would just curl up and cry until my death. I can be pretty dramatic sometimes.

Anyway, food. So my first thought were the three foods in general that I would just have to have with me. This was actually pretty easy. Of course, nutritional yeast is a must have. I need that a lot because I put it on everything! I also decided on peanut butter and avocado. Because I love those things and life without them would be hard. Yep, I am going for the fats apparently.

Desert island

But then I was thinking... they say that all our nutritional needs are met... they don't say how these will be met. However surely an island supplying nutritional needs of vegans would actually have nooch, peanut butter and avocado because they are pretty basic life needs for vegans. So maybe what they mean is what ridiculous silly foods would you take? Well, just in case, here is what I settled on.

Desert island

Peanut butter cups, because I love them! I am picky about them though. My favourite are the Justin's, but I am a bit torn about how they now say that they contain milk, even though their website says that they actually don't but they just say that for allergen concerns. But why would you not just say 'may contain...'.... WHY? The Theo's cups are OK, not as good. I don't like the Go Max Go Cleo cups though, they are way too sweet.

So Delicious cashew ice cream! I happen to have this chocolate flavour in the freezer at the moment, but I would accept all flavours except the coffee one. The salted caramel is so far my favourite, but I haven't tried the snickerdoodle or plain yet! And really, if you are going to be able to get one flavour of ice cream on a desert island, surely they can manage four flavours.

Field Roast. Just a frequent delivery of assorted Field Roast, though particularly the Apple Sage sausages if I have to pick only one.

Either way, I suppose this would make the island a little more bearable until I turned into a sunburned crisp!

Just letting it all hang loose.

  1. Excellent choices! Justin's peanut butter cups have milk now? NO!! NOOOOOO!!!! (also being dramatic) I was already heartbroken when they switched their chocolate hazelnut butter from hazelnut to "hazelnut blend."

That cashew ice cream is so yummy! The salted caramel is my favorite too. No coffee ice cream for me either, thankyouverymuch.

It looks like Gizmo had been in the catnip bag there! :P

    1. Apparently they are still vegan, there is no actual milk in them, but they have upgraded them from 'may contain' to 'contains' milk due to allergen reasons? Just feels a bit like they are giving themselves a pass to accidentally slip a bit of milk in there every now and then. Anyway, plenty of vegans I have spoken to have said they are still happy to eat them. I am just suspicious. I have no problems with 'may contain', but 'contains' makes my alarm bells ring no matter what the website says!

  2. I was about to read your post (the 20th arrive much earlier in Australia than in Canada)... but I stopped to write down my endless food supplies to make sure I wouldn't be influenced!

Indeed, I thought about avocado and nooch too, but I decided on some other things. I discovered the salted caramel ice cream this summer : it's so good! Unbelievable. We don't have those Deli slices yet... are they better than Tofurky's?

    1. To be honest I haven't tried those slices yet, but every other Field Roast thing I have tried has been outstanding! I am sure the slices will be great.
Keen to see what your third thing is when my today finally becomes your today. :)

  4. I haven't tried that ice cream yet, only because of the price plus knowing I will eat it all within 24 hours.

    1. It's worth it. A lot of imported products I am happy to skip because of the price, however the cashew ice creams are one product I would happily pay any amount for. They are that good.

  5. Ha ha - excellent choices! It was hard not to get too logical about all this. How will the Field Roast be delivered? Can I request a different Ice Cream flavor every week? Am I living off vitamin gel goo the rest of the time? MoFo mysteries

    1. Vitamin gel goo sounds depressing.
I think that if they are able to deliver one type of ice cream to the island, surely they can rotate flavours!

  6. I am jealous you can all get the ice cream. The range of vegan Ice cream in England is still rubbish. Great choices. I love all the Field Roast stuff I've tried, at least we can get that. The only peanut butter cups we get are the Cleos. I had it when chocolate companies do that milk thing when it's really a may contain issue. One of our biggest companies Green and Blacks started doing it a few years ago and really confused everyone.

    1. Green & Blacks is here as well and I was under the impression that they had added milk to their ingredients, but just a label issue? WHY? So frustrating.

  7. I feel the same way about today's prompt! I feel like I would definitely not make it very long! I love the cashew milk ice cream as well. The snickerdoodle is amazing! Really sweet, but really tasty, although the salted caramel is my favorite! Loving the Gizmo pictures so much!

    1. I am keen to try snickerdoodle, I like snickerdoodle cookies. However I think those chocolate covered cashews in the salted caramel one will keep me going back to that.
I am glad you are enjoying Gizmo, I am loving sharing her with people. :)

  8. These are excellent choices! I think I'd want cashew milk cream too bc it's gonna be hot on an island, right? I haven't done my post yet since I post tonight, but I might steal that idea. :-P

    1. I hope not too hot, because so pale! Though I guess if there is going to be ice cream and field roast then there will have to be refrigeration so I am sure they can rig a cooled tent for me. But not too cold.

  9. ooh, I didn't know about the peanut butter cups. I think there was another company that was using some shady wording or inexplicable reason for saying they had dairy but then said they didn't. Odd. Anyway, you do realize that you got peanut butter and fat into both your versions? Well done!

Hahaha awww Susan. I'm sure you would manage and someone would come to save you!
Oooh nutritional yeast, that is a good one! I really hope that they would have that already on the island as B12 is definitely a need that would have to be met.
Oh those Justin's pb cups are evil!! And by that I mean horribly addictive ;p So good! I also don't like how they say it contains milk.
I haven't tried the chocolate cashew milk, I really like the caramel one too and am not interested in the coffee one at all.
The Gizmo pictures are so cute =)

I think the caramel cashew ice cream seems to be the one everyone likes the best!
