USA 2013 Part 8 - Seattle

Marionberry Scone and Chai from Cinnamon Works

I can't resist the lure of a Seattle waterfront breakfast, so I got up early and picked up a Marionberry Scone and a large chai from Cinnamon Works.

Cinnamon Doughnut from Mighty-O

Seattle is home to some of the best vegan doughnuts around - Mighty-O, and they make my favourite kind, the cinnamon doughnut. All these strange glazed doughnuts can't hold a candle to a delicious, warm cinnamon sugary doughnut. I was a bit disappointed where I was there to see that cow milk is the default milk for drinks, and they charge extra for soy. I am not sure if this is still the case, but in 2013 we were kind of miffed.

Green Lake
SQUIRREL! at Green Lake
Geese at Green Lake

Mighty-O is a short walk to the beautiful Green Lake, which is a lovely spot for a picnic or just lying in the grass and looking at the water and talking to the animal friends. Like this SQUIRREL! and some lovely water birds.

Woodland Park
Bunny at Woodland Park

From there you can take a lovely walk through a shady wood at Woodland Park. As well as SQUIRRELS! and birds, we also saw this so cute you could die bunny, just hopping around the grass.

Fremont Troll

We caught a bus down to Fremont for lunch, and happened across the famous Fremont Troll lurking under his bridge.

Rock'n'Sprout Salad at Flying Apron
Mac and Cheese at Flying Apron
Chai with hemp milk at Flying Apron
Shepherd's Pie at Flying Apron

Our lunch destination was Flying Apron, a vegan and gluten-free bakery cafe in Fremont. I had the Mac and Cheese (of course) with a very yummy Rock'n'Sprout Salad and a chai with hemp milk, and Ashleigh had a shepherd's pie. They had a bakery case full of giant baked goodies, and were handing out samples of their gf Garlic and Herb bread, which is the best gf bread I have ever tried.

Chicken and Corn Soup at Bamboo Garden
Chicken Chow Mien at Bamboo Garden
Satay Tofu Skin and Veggies at Bamboo Garden
Golden on Petals at Bamboo Garden

For dinner we met the fabulous Helen and headed off for another go at Bamboo Garden. I knew Helen from Twitter, and this was our first time meeting 'in real life', and she is absolutely awesome. We started with some Corn and Chicken Soup, which I knew from my last visit is very nice. We shared a few mains. Ashleigh picked Chicken Chow Mein and I picked Satay Tofu Skin and Veggies. Helen picked the intriguingly named 'Golden on Petals', which was crispy fried bean curd skin on stir-fried vegetables.

It was a lovely dinner and so nice to meet Helen. Meeting up with internet friends is always of a highlight of any trip!

  1. Mighty O make my favourite doughnut too but mine's the one covered in chocolate and sprinkles. So perfect! I love the position sizes at Bamboo Garden, they're outa control!
